WTF?  It's snowing.

Haha yeah I heard that on the radio this morning and instantly thought of you and Morat. How rare is snow in Houston?

When I lived in Houston, and it even got like littlest bit icy, people could not drive a damn there.
I was there over Christmas once and it was threatening to freeze.  The news could not stop running specials about the coming "Winter Storm!" and how to ensure that you know your pipes are properly wrapped to prevent freezing and checking things like leaving faucets dribbling, putting antifreeze in your car, etc.  You know, stuff the rest of the country does already ;-)

Texas (and pretty much the entire south) has to be even more paranoid about it, since they didn't insulate to near the same extent as anyplace else in the US until a decade or so ago.

We had significant snow once when I was in college, five years ago on Christmas Eve, last year, and in some parts of town today.  By significant I mean you could see patches of it on the ground, but would be laughed at anywhere else.  The only time things have been really dangerous was the one in college and an ice storm which coated the city in a few inches of ice about ten years ago.

People here freak in rain though.  They either think they can drive in it just fine, or assume we have the ability to treat our roads like they do elsewhere.  Both are wrong and liable to get you killed.  If there is any chance of ice or snow, I stay home.

The heaviest snow at my place was before it was cold enough to really stick.  It had stopped by the time it could, so there's only a hint of it around. sad

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

edit. You need to bring out the Christmas Strazos Avatard.  Its the holidays!

I'll have to look around more in my archive DVD set, but it might be on my PC up in NJ. Or, I'll have to redo it, when I have time.

Like when I'm not spending an hour telling some latecomer to a meeting that Yes, we can do classified in this room if we follow these rules.

No, I know the room is not cleared, by default.

No, that doesn't mean we can't do it.

(FFS) I've had multiple briefings with security, they ok'd it...What's that, you don't believe me?

Let me do my job, plzkthx. (Sorry, venting)

Put beans or grounds in machine. Add water. Push button. Wait.

Pour into cup.

Just had a chat with an investment banker who is going from house to house in my neighborhood looking for new clients.  Must be a sign that things are going well in the economy.

You guys are so helpful.

I meant things like Peppermint or Creme de Cacao and that stuff. Google hooked me up with a nice egg nog/coffee ratio so far.

This is page 255, which is An Holy Number.

Also, while a lazy Sunday feels great, today I finished plasterboarding (drywalling?) the last wall of my house in its present shape, planted 20 garlic and 120 onions, replaced some lighting fixtures where the wiring was dubious, stuck up a thermal blind, chopped enough wood for the next week and took the dogs to the beach to tire them out.  All in our seven and a half scant hours of daylight.  I feel virtuous.

What's a thermal blind?

Bought some Peppermint Extract today and tried various mixtures. Succeeded in getting the smell but not the taste. Didn't work with coffee either. Trying next with a Latte and some baking chocolate.

So, what are the chances that when we go page +1 the internet sucks itself into a black hole and disappears?  If nothing happens though, then we will know for sure that doomsday will come at page 65,535.

I find it positively fascinating that you just now discovered that you can mix things into drinks.

What will you discover next, Indiana?

What the hell's an Indiana?

And don't be dense. I'm just very conservative with trying new types of coffee mixtures. Can't afford to fuck up my day. So I ask other people who've probably done it instead of taking my chance with google.

A bunch of the E-cig folks who mix their own liquid use the Capella Flavor drops - they're actually designed for beverages and are pretty damned potent.  Worth a shot and not too terribly expensive.

What's a thermal blind?

It's a blind designed to make it hurt less when the temperature is plummeting outside, and you need a dryish day to pour the concrete for the foundations for your oil tank so you can fit central heating (I was serious about the wood-chopping).

Once in a great while I'll put a cinnamon stick in my coffee.  Other than that, I like my coffee very strong, black and mostly unsissiefied.

Surely if they're making it with Baileys then it isn't Irish coffee?

It's like saying they've been making coffee with chocolate instead of coffee and calling it hot chocolate.

Two rounded tablespoons Cafe du Monde Coffee and Chickory in a French Press. Half fill your mug with steamed (or just warmed if you dont have steam) milk, fill the other half with the coffee. Yummy as hell, and booze not needed.

Course you do need to have the coffee shipped from New Orleans... (I still have about 6 tins of it left)

I never got the appeal of chicory, or any of the 'postum' varieties.

Me either.  My sister uses chicory when she makes coffee sometimes and I just hate it.  I love coffee and used to drink it constantly.  I've been better the last few years or so.  I don't like flavoured coffee, though, and not nuts about most of the things people seem to like to put in it.  Even sugar and cream.  Out of curiosity, I was just now looking at some sites that sell flavoured coffee beans and it's gone wild.  Pumpkin in my coffee sounds especially wrong.   ACK!
