Just take another from your company.
Heh, colleague's son is afraid of violence (covers his eyes when watching ironman's gun on people's head scene and whimpers 'no please no') but digs dinosaurs (it's soooo cooool) ? Wtf?

People are inherently evil but Dinosaurs are love and happiness embodied.

Yeah, can't get the furring strips at the big box and don't feel like hitting every lumber yard in a 50 mi radius. Got some 1x's that measure out about 3/4. Hopefully only need to beef it out in one spot that's fucked up anyway (behind the wood stove), and right now it's hidden by the heat shield. I'ma slap it in there and pray. I fully expect this to look like shit, but it'll add about r6 total to whatever block alone might be rated for. Since it was straight up block and paneling before, it's got to be an improvement...

At least the windows are good and the walls are (fuckin A) solid. Attic crawlspace already has two layers of insulation, but after I get some work done up there, I'll be laying down another for good measure.

Another and I should have it in decent shape, just a few dangling issues to deal with at some point. Finish drywalling the living room, contracting out the bathroom (a time issue), then clean up some plumbing and mickey mouse wiring. Some paint and I can finally move in.

I have never seen Danica Patrick so angry.  If they hadn't called security on her and whisked Briscoe off someplace far away, he would be a dead man by now.  Go Go Danica!

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Yep, I found it and read last night.

You were clear enough, Signe, but I wanted the details. Like.. WHY was she that mad.  The only story I've seen on it is the same AP wire on a few different sights.  The one that stops a hair short of calling her an overemotional woman who shouldn't have cared so much because she wasn't going to win anyway.  awesome, for real

I think she was mostly mad because she really had a car that could win and Briscoe made such a total rookie mistake... smacking into her in the pits, no less.  I mean it IS the Indy 500.  And she has a temper!  It's not the first time she's gone after someone.  I can't help cheer her on.  She so tiny and cute and has no fear.  She so could have won that race, you know.

Yeah, she probably could have won. She's not a bad driver. I do think it's hilarious to see her walking around in a helmet that's the size of her torso :)

What about those sunglasses to hide those angry eyes?  They were bigger than her face!  She's adorable.  I hope she never goes to prison for murder, though I can see it happening.

Well, at least two of them have some sort of admirable skill (driving and swimming). We can keep those.

Anyone involved with "pro" wrestling can be put in that house, though.

So we get this recorded phone call from Gamestop which, after blabbing at me in Spanish for a bit, told me that Mass Effect is ready to be picked up.  Twenty minutes later we get another phone call from Gamestop asking us to give our opinion of the first phone call.  I am hoping this won't turn into some sort of Klein Bottle of Gamestop phonecalls!   ACK!

I successfully saved vs Bat Country this round. I'll join you all in AoC this winter when you have a well-established BC city.

Mass Affect still on preorder, though. I'm a rebel.

I'm having fun but I think waiting 6 more months would be a really good idea.  By then a lot of the not-showstopping-but-still-annoying-issues-that-add-up should be taken care of.

I made people concerned in another thread.  Don't be.  Sorry!  My dad is ill and has dementia and is in the hospital because he couldn't get out of bed this past weekend.  The hospital wants to release him tomorrow and we have no place to put him.  There is a hospital social worker trying to help.  His back is so bad that he can hardly walk and he can't manage steps.  Even if my sister or I could take him in, we have stairs.  I spent seven hours at the hospital with him yesterday and will be back at it off and on for a while.  A lot of places won't take him because he smokes, even though he can't even walk anywhere to buy any cigs.  I don't get it.  In any case, it's such a horrible mess and he's so scared and out of his mind.  He keeps thinking he's done something wrong and is being punished.  He can't keep a thought in his head for more than a few seconds.  At one point, he thought he had done something and was in jail.  He doesn't understand anything that's happening to him.  I felt more guilty than I ever have last night when I left the hospital.  It's the same with my sister only even worse because she lives close by and she has power of attorney.  I've just never seen him so frightened.

Anyway, I think people though I was was getting murdered or divorced or something.  It's not really about me at all, just family stuff and the fact that I have forgotten how to sleep.   swamp poop

Sig,

I'm very sorry to hear about your father - it's always difficult when you see someone who has perhaps been a source of strength for you, for so long, be so fragile. Try and remember though that maybe during this time, while you are with him, instead of feeling guilty - your being around is actually a source of amazing comfort for him and perhaps even gives him moments of happiness and joy when he is able to know you are there. (I don't know what stage of dementia he is in, so I apologize if I am being a bit obtuse.) I hope you find a place that will welcome him and be able to help him be as comfortable as he can be.

Nothing will change the guilt you feel, I watch my mother go through it with my grand-mother. But your sister and you are being and doing the best you possibly can by being with him and helping him. Even if he doesn't realize it.

Prayers and best of luck to your family.

Sorry to hear about your dad, Signe. Dementia can be really awful, but don't feel guilty if you can,  you're doing your best, even though you probably feel that you somehow aren't. Just remember, you aren't failing him, nature is failing him :/

Sorry, Signe. I've had a little taste of the dementia thing from my maternal grandad in the years before he died. He was also a bit senile anyway, but when he really went off the deep end, it was tough talking to him. He'd interrupt the conversation every once in a while to point out the little men hiding behind the couch over there, and then a minute or so later ask "There really weren't any little men, were there?"

Stay strong and give him love. That's the best you can do for him. And get some sleep for yourself. People in your situation always feel guilty about taking care of themselves but don't. You can't take care of him if you're blitzed out of your mind from no sleep.

Thanks everyone!  We found a place that will take him, actually.  It's very small.  It's nice but it smells like, well, you know... that nursing home smell.  It has a deck and they have bbqs, and believe it or not, they let them smoke on the deck.  I don't feel bad about him smoking, he's ill and what difference could it make after 60 years of puffing away?  He also has a heart anurysm but he's too frail to have surgery.  He'll never be strong enough for that.  I think the guilt feelings I have are because he seemed so scared but he didn't have a bad day today so I feel a little bit better.

I have to add that although I do love my father, maybe just because he's my father and I've known him forever, he's not a particularly nice man.  Typical of many Norwegian men of his generation, he always cared much more about impressing other people than about his family. In fact, he gave away many of my mother's precious possessions after she died, some to people I don't even  know.  We always got along better when we lived in different countries.  It's only recently, since he's become old and ill, that he started to act as if he likes us.  I think the thing that disturbs me the most about all this is that he used to be a very, very smart man and now he doesn't even remember how to read.

(also, I have a very strange and eccentric family so I should be used to whatever comes my way.  I just never am.)

Oh it made it to iTunes now?  Local station interviewed the artist over a year ago, there's a whole album of Rock/Metal-as-lullaby by them, but I can't recall the name of the album or the performers.

Speaking of Met: Missionmetallica.com for previews of the new album.  There's a free sign-up don't fall for the "Pay us $32 to get the digital download and the album on the release date!"  It actually sounds... good.. from the clips you get to hear.  But then, movies look good from trailers, too.
