The thing is, there is a ton of shit like zombie figures, guns that shoot plastic ninjas, etc. littered around our dev space.  The problem is that he was  this guy looks legit and I wanted to walk out after 10 minutes.

Sadly the first resume only produced that one gem.  It was about developing file systems.  A file system for the internet.

I love fines like that. 10% of the penalty of doing the 'right' thing. Nice move, bureaucracy!

I'm trying again with a second mortgage product. 20yr fixed monthly, 5.5% (after I bitched them down from 5.75). $50 more a month but shaves 10 years off, not including any extra payments I'll be making on it. Hopefully the bank appraisal goes well, it's the last known unknown unless there's title funkiness. Given this deal, I don't rule anything out.

The other two guys who made offers on houses in my price range at the same time I did are closing this week. Ye gods.

Did you check out some of the first time homebuyer products, Sky?

I bought my condo last December,  managed to get 5.75% (which was .5% better than best local banks were offering, and really good at the time) though I had to kick in a point or two.  There are income limitations that are really bizarre on that.  It also holds up getting financing for longer than a commercial mortgage.

Make sure to get your STAR application in ASAP after you close,  which should reduce your property taxes.  You should get an app in the mail.  NYS property taxes are just all around fucked.

You'll hear it from other places,  but it really does help to have a few thousand in a slush/contingency fund while you're getting settled.  Nothing like showing up to move in,  and discovering the carpet is massively stained underneath where the couch was,  you really should do some taping/mudding in trouble spots where pictures hung,  the fridge dies a month after you move in, and miscellaneous knicknacks to decorate/make things comfortable somehow ran you $1,000.

This was my house to a T.  Fucking lazy white trash motherfuckers couldn't be bothered to maintain their half a million dollar house for shit yet they drove fucking Escalades.  Priorities are where it's all at I guess.

First-time home buyer program is about 2 years on the waiting list. Then city hall helpfully told me about a home improvement program. Only 5 years because I'm outside the target district, even though I'm well within the city and by two of the best schools. So....no. On the bright side, I negotiated the points with the bank and didn't have to buy them. STAR app, fuck'n A. ASAP. Not only are NY taxes awful, my city in particular is nuuuts. I'd call the neighborhood lower middle class, 950sq ft house, about $3k in taxes. The house I was considering two years ago, in a prime location and maybe 1200sq ft would've been about $6500/yr in taxes.

For a slush fund, I should have a little left after closing. Planned it that way, only putting 5% down rather than 10%. Also planning on getting a personal loan to use as a construction fund. First item on the agenda is ripping out the bathroom and putting in new everything but the tub (and even that is a judgement call tbd). Not going to be cheap. Also need to pull some wall treatments down and fix that mess, faux brick is not a good idea...but painting it fire engine red with black 'mortar' was even worse. I'll also be buying out Lowe's entire stock of caulk imo. Lots of work ahead, luckily most is simple maintenance. A couple of masonry jobs, a little tweak to the plumbing, some demo in the basement. I'll be goddamned busy.

Forgot to mention the massive black sheet metal box hanging over the wood stove by that wall. It's to duct heat through the house if you're just using the woodstove, but the kid didn't know what it was. It's massive (a 4' cube) and he's lived there 2-1/2 yrs. It's so getting ripped out, too. I'll put in a convection fan, problem solved. Easier to add more insulation to the crawlspace, too. Did I mention the metric shitton of work? Luckily, nothing serious! (I have to keep telling myself that)

Every house I've lived in, the first thing was to replace the ugly ass stuff in the bathroom. Toilet, sink, taps. Only did the tub once, then learned about having one refinished. Cost $140, but only took them a couple hours. And not having to break and haul out a tub was well worth it.

I'm currently replacing wiring, and need to get started replacing the stairway soon. Then the roof before the summer storms come through.

It's never-ending.

The ugly-ass tub that came with our house was steel, so they couldn't break it to get it out. It was an ordeal. We replaced it with cast iron, so it can never be replaced again! It weighs 300 lbs! bwahahaha!

My condo is about the same sq ft,  but only $2,200 property tax after STAR.

I was looking at a gorgeous house that was 1250 sq ft,  great selling price that would have been easy to afford, but $4,800/annual property tax killed it.  I would have had to gut the amount I put into my retirement plan.

I can't figure out why the hell people do that. I see it a lot around where I live. They always pick the most unatural fucking shade of red too. People should be forced to get a license before they are allowed to remodel.

The pics are clicky. It's a massive lego Star Destroyer. There's also a lego Death Star II (the one where all the contractors died), didn't see the original Death Star. The second is a lego ice cube tray. I loved legos and star wars when I was a kid.

But c'mon, shower boobs! Those are awesome, for reals!

There is no original Death Star, yet.   Be wary of the deluxe Star Destroyer, however.   My sister-in-law's boyfriend collects Star Wars Legos (to the point he superglues the models  ACK!) and she told me that the thing is too heavy to support it's own weight, even when glued.  Pick it up and it tries to snap in half.

I can attest to the structural stability of the Tie Interceptor deluxe model, though.  It's pretty rad.

Having a small ISP is great most of the time. No complaints over bandwidth use, or torrents or anything. Except when it breaks. And you get to sit on the phone for hours at a time with people who speak English perfectly well (call center is in Madison, Wisconsin) but refuse to deviate from their script. The same script every time. Even with the ticket number from the previous call, they take 20 minutes to read the previous guy's notes, then start at the beginning anyway.

6 days in, they're finally sending a tech today.

This has been going around for a while, at least last year if I recall.  I only know because the other half told me about it.  She went to see them in 1989 or somesuch and thought it would be funny to go again.
