Someone tagged my garbage can. It was well done and rather subtle. I think I'll keep it.

And now some lady is calling and texting me insisting that I called her. Weird start to the week.

Trying to explain [anything remotely technical] to non-tech people is a fool's errand.
I was bemused today that a woman couldn't understand why she couldn't get DVDs from our DVD dispenser, as I patiently explained for the third time that there is a mechanism that removes the disc from storage and delivers it to the door for retrieval.

Said mechanism was sitting disassembled in front of me on the table and every time I explained that I was replacing the belt on it, I held it up in front of her.

Absinthe has made this a fine holiday, but it made cooking brussel sprouts more challenging.

I had to scour my mom's house for some refreshment and all she had was some Wild Turkey 101 she used for a pie. I made do.

Fry them in bacon fat, then throw in a lot of bacon. Too much work for the result, but pretty good.

Fry them in bacon fat, then throw in a lot of bacon. Then scoop out the brussel sprouts, throw them in the trash, and just eat the bacon.

Just found out that the new guy on my team partially funded his college education by gold farming in Lineage 2.  It brought back fond memories of Haemish's dog-killing adventures when f13 was young.   awesome, for real

The WiFi is now working on my older Dell laptop that has a fresh layer of CentOS on it! Yahoo! As a linux newbie, I take great pride in not having to watch a single youtube video to accomplish this.  Onwards to tmux, Atom, and Chromium.

As a noob, you should probably have tried something like Mint rather than CentOS. CentOS is really built around being a server OS for people that don't want to/can't pay RedHat for support.

PHP 7.0.26 has broken my portfolio site. I need to revert to the previous version but the hosting is managed by my ex-girlfriend who won't speak to me anymore. I can SSH in but I have no idea how to revert the versions and I have no clue what the server config even looks like.

I do really recommend Linux Mint as a distro for the casual Linux user. Its default mode is for desktop use, it's essentially Ubuntu with a non-shitty UI, and of course you can make it be a server for whatever you need as well. CentOS is the scientific-oriented distro based off RedHat. I'm not the biggest fan, but then again, it is the officially supported distro of where I work so that's what's for dinner if you're running a Linux server here.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

There are some phrases that "casual" just does not belong in front of.   why so serious?

The workers renovating the place next door left with the radio still on full blast. Yay.  At least it's on NPR, so we're getting blasted by jazz instead of the typical mariachi music you get from construction workers.
