This media frothing at the mouth claiming the apocalypse is coming with this hurricane is seriously grinding on my nerves. It is as though all the past major storms and their aftermath never really happened. It's a hurricane, it has not happened in a few years. Yes it will suck, but it will not be end of days. Really long for the days when the news reported the news and not constant reactionary editorials.

The problem the media and government face post-Katrina is that if they don't strike the fear of God into the lazy, uninformed, and self absorbed general populace the populace ignores it and tun turn around and blame the government and media for not properly warning them when it is over.

So they err way on the side of caution.

It's also good TV. People tune in for that kind of stuff, which makes it easier for the media to hype it. They're doing a public service, right?

The governor's in the at-risk states were pretty darn serious though. "Leave. Don't stay. You're an idiot if you're staying. LEAVE. I cannot make this more clear. MOVE TO ANOTHER PLACE FAR FROM WHERE YOU ARE OR YOU MIGHT DIE".

Plus a big boost for the post-season hotel/motel industry! Here around Charlotte they were already gouging due to the nascar race this weekend, now rooms are truly astronomical.

I'm sure they'd be really good right out of the fryer, but packaged up with extra preservatives? hmmmm

You guys haven't heard of deep-fried Twinkies before? They've been fair food for nearly two decades. I'm honestly surprised it took this long for them to show-up in stores, but the original Hostess DID go bankrupt.

Snickers Pie
Fried Twinkies
Fried Snickers
Fried Beer
 - The innovation of which has lead to Fried Lattes, Fried Coca-Cola, and Fried Kool-Aid
Fried Jell-o
Fried bubblegum

These are actual things. They will all make it to stores in time. (Snickers pie is already out there)

None of that shit could possibly be good unless it's straight outta the fryer.

Especially Fried butter, which you didn't mention. Shame on you.

I've heard of Fried Twinkies at the Fair (and the thought makes me ill). I never expected to see it in the goddamn freezer section.

Kettle has been making a vain attempt at being artisanal for like 6 years. It's awful. Their jalapeño is bomb though.

Although they are sometimes not quite salty enough, you can really taste the potato in the Utz chips.  I got a sample bag of the Kettle ones made with Himalayan salt and avocado oil and the flavour was very yummy even though I'm not nuts about super hard chips.

Pink salt, you know?  How bausome is that?   My sister has been buying that salt for ages and I always use it.  Why?  Because it's pink.  And salty.  What else comes in pink these days?  I want it!  If cats were born with pink fur, I would have dozens of them.

My dog decided today to have a very ferocious bark-off with the dog we colloquially refer to as "fireplace dog."  This is the dog who nefariously decides to show up whenever the angle of sunlight is just right and turns the fireplace screen into a mirror-like surface. In other news, my dog is fucking stupid.

My black cat, Magenta, sometimes frantically scratches at windows and the glass patio doors.  I used to think she was saying, "Let me out! Let me out! Let me out!" but now I'm pretty sure she's saying, "Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!"

When I see my own reflection, I quickly look away.

We had it at Wargaming. Most of the groups were pretty quiet apart from the marketing and communications groups obviously. The busiest group overall though was the cat picture sharing group (I was in it to post pictures of Nadia).

Wife's work has Skype chat channels open all the time for different groups of people, some of which include clients. Typing things in the wrong channel has led to some very irate clients. Idiotic idea.

Our sales guy had the "amazing" idea to create a slack setup for customer support, where each client has a private channel (bigger clients at least, not no name consumers).  This is all fine and dandy except for the fact that we use slack for our internal communication.  So now my slack has two icons that look exactly the same, one external and one internal and I have to triple check anytime I write anything in slack.

Local Indian Band opened up a new Mega-Mall here on the weekend. Includes the first Bass Pro Shop in BC.

It's the size of a small Wal-Mart. I felt like I was transported in to the heart of America. So much guns and camo in one place...

Even as a Southerner who was raised in the country, I am severely intimidated by Bass Pro Shops. The place gives me a panic attack.
