but we've noticed the squirrels are all gone.

Our squirrels disappeared a couple of years ago! I'd not connected those dots before now.

It was a glorious year when a cooper hawk raised two fledglings in my backyard. Nary a rodent to be seen.

Well, that was interesting. Turns out if you ignore bronchitis and let pneumonia develop and keep saying it's going to get better and it's not a big deal, you kind of feel like you're dying after a month or so of that. The fun part is how you feel after six days of antibiotics--kind of superhuman! Except that's just normal, and you'd forgotten what normal was.

Bleh, hope you feel better. I've had a cough for a month and a half the doctors insist isn't bronchitis or pneumonia because it hasn't been productive all that time. It started this week, though, so here's hoping. They insisted it's just allergies but I don't have any other allergy symptoms nor am I allergic to anything. Joy.

My 11 year old hates his recent haircut so much (although it is perfectly acceptable) that he has decided to wear a hat for the foreseeable future very similar to Louise but this one is a bear face rather than bunny ears.  Its a knit hat and it is in the 90s here. I'm soooo looking forward to the teen years.  Ohhhhh, I see.

Also, made some salsa today and got the chili (arbols) ratio a bit off so it basically melts your face if you eat much of it.  Might use part of it as a chicken marinade by cutting it with lager.

Glad you are feeling better Khaldun. I have done the "my lungs are trying to kill me" routine and it is not fun.

The thing that I didn't realize was how short of breath I was for a whole month, and how tired that was making me. I kept thinking, "Wow, I am really out of shape even more than I thought, gotta do something." And then I got to a point where I was almost gasping and coughing and I said, "Ok, so this is a bit more than being out of shape" and I went to the ER. Doc was like, "Um, wow, you have pneumonia for reals, why did you wait this long?"

I know your pain.  I had pneumonia when I was 22.  It was nasty.  Abagadro, your son might still be wearing a knit cap when he's a teen and beyond.  It's a thing.  Stay down, Merusk!

I could deal with a knit hat. He is running around in this thing. Looks like the kid from Adventuretime.

Listening to my 8 & 13 year old explain video games to me such as FPS, design, & sandboxes makes me smile. Then I tell them I know what they're talking about & have played all of them & the 8 year old response is I'm too old to have been alive when video games were new. The 13 year old tells me that 8 bit NES gaming isn't anything to be proud of. I'm officially old now...

I was "strongly encouraged" by multiple employers to keep one and update it. Since I'm client-facing I get it. It lets the clients come take a look at who I am and what my history is. If I wasn't, then I wouldn't have bothered in the first place.

Oh. Marvelous.

I barely keep my profile updated as it is, and only recently as I've been getting more frustrated with my current job.  So now I can expect to start seeing reminders to update popping up all over the place.  Ohhhhh, I see.

I figured out how useless LinkedIn was recently when both my co-worker and myself got emails with a listing of jobs that we might be good for, and we both got "Personnel Director" at the goddamn Waffle House. Like how that's even remotely to be considered within either of our skill ranges is beyond me other than we have both had the word "Director" in out title for years (as in Interactive Art Director - which is not my title anymore).

Glassdoor does a slightly better job at that than LinkedIn, but you never know. Maybe Waffle House is the peak for your geographic location.

You're running a business and you're questioning the value of relationships in doing so?

It made tons of sense on the Architectural side. My industry does a lot based on relationships, and you can connect to others via that common relationship.

It also lets you track where old contacts have moved to when their former employer has dumped you for a cheaper alternative. We won a few design projects I know of base off Construction Managers or GCs moving to new retailers or construction firms. They'd liked working with us, it was just their boss pinching pennies or knowing someone else that made the decision to move away.

It doesn't provide a non-value service, it just does it in a pretty awful way.

If you need LinkedIn to navigate possible employers and employees, there's a problem. This was not an area of life I desperately needed to be solved by the internet, particularly in an aggravating ego-stroking way.
