Yeah, we need rain, too.  Maybe tomorrow.  We'll need a downpour to wash away all the tree sex.

Accountants roll their eyes at FA's. We have overhead accounts for a reason. Because not everything is in job cost.

While this is true, it seems to be difficult to charge clients for the general overhead.

I know I don't need to mention this, but you're broken.  How can you watch this shit?

I get it now... you're betting on it to make some extra scratch.  It all makes sense.

It's fascinating, like a trainwreck in slowmotion. I'm sad Finland didn't make it.

I love Eurovision. It's high camp and cheese. What's the easiest way to watch it over here?

I'm sad about Finland, too.  And for them.  I kept waiting for Patrick Swayse to show up for Italy but then they went all Andrea Bocelli on me.

It was the most Eurovision song so far by a long way. I liked Belguim's entry too, glad they got in. I can respect any performer that's willing to take a quick nap mid-performance.

And don't forget Australia  swamp poop

The Russian one had me giggling like a maniac.  The poor lassies name sounds straight out of Austin Powers.

As I mentioned, I'm a fan of Georgia.

But we'll see.  Lots more to come.

And FUCK Australia.

As someone currently near the Aus timezone, I don't know what the fuck the tie in is. There's no way in hell I'm staying up to watch or vote in Eurovision and I've got a history of watching it and am even a couple of hours closer. Although I'll have to make sure I can get BBC coverage, I can't imagine watching this without suitably sarcastic commentary throughout.

Belgium's was the closest thing to an actual good song, though I'm not sure if that counts as winning or losing at Eurovision. I might give it to Georgia on visuals alone.

Can anybody help me understand why Eurovision is so awful? Good music is being produced in many of these countries, sometimes even by these very performers and songwriters. Is there some political reason that everything turns into uninspired sentiment and spectacle? Wouldn't countries want themselves represented by something less uniformly tacky?

Actually even as I'm saying that I'm thinking about how goofy and embarrassing Olympic opening ceremonies are. It involves committees doesn't it?

Because no one takes it seriously. And anyone that does take it seriously is a humorless sack of butt. It's the special olympics of music.

Hell, Finland sent retarded people.

Why are you asking that question?

Kinda sad Portugal didn't make it; they were my favorite of SF 2 followed by Slovenia. No real standouts like in round 1, though luls go to Malta for doing the same schtick as Georgia but not half as well, and to Latvia for trying to make this something other than just the whitest shit ever.

I think another reason it is so lame is because each of the little regions involved attempt to make music that panders more directly to the people who live in those regions in order to guarantee the votes from their neighbors.  Which is why a bunch of extremely embarrassing old ladies dancing around a bread oven while very poorly singing an original Russian folk song manages to win second place a few years ago, etc.  Tranny singers also tend to win more than what could statistiscally be called their fair share, and we could probably have a long discussion about why that is so.

Occasionally, genuinely good songs rise the above the bullshit by virtue of just being way better than all the other songs.

There are sometimes good song but the nature of the show really rewards spectacle and novelty acts. You only hear the song a couple of times so stuf that is kind of fun the first time can garner a lot of extra votes. That and like 80% of the votes are due to regional politics so that's almost the only way to get the extra. And some countries really don't want to win because it means having to host the fucking thing, so they seem to tread a fine line between doing something that will definitely not win but isn't actually embarassing to your nation.

As someone currently near the Aus timezone, I don't know what the fuck the tie in is.

The tie in is that the local broadcaster here, SBS, is currently in a shitfight with the government to allow more advertising.  So they want really high ratings, so they can say "Look, we need more advertising.", so they have paid a 'donation' to the Eurovision corporation to allow Australia a wildcard entry.

Don't worry, we think its just as fucked up that Guy fucking Sebastian is in Eurovision.

I wanted to ask how I'd never heard of this band, but after I was forced to turn the video off before the 1 minute mark, I knew. Dear God, that was fucking painful.
