French doors are ridiculously easy to break in through since the whole latching/locking mechanism is between the two door panels and there is no central post to secure them to. Sure, it is great to have a 6 foot wide unobstructed opening to your veranda, but there are always downsides.

Yep.  She changed them when the doors were replaced, to one with a central post.

I've still never been burgled, knock on wood, and am not sure if it's in spite of or because of living in what I'll call "unassuming" neighborhoods most of my life.  Glad everyone's okay.

How well do you know your neighbors?  Any of them have kids in their teens?  Often break-ins like these are done by people that know you.

Heh, my 75 year old MIL almost got into a brawl with another grandma at my kid's 4th grade class play over saved seats. Good times.

I meant bad areas, rather than shitty houses.

I know. Fewer break-in reports in "bad" areas than good ones. Probably because "bad" areas people don't have stuff and are more likely to have folks at home. (Unemployment, poverty, etc)

Yeah Ironwood, sorry about all that poverty you're going through.  We can set up a donation drive if things become critical.

Regarding the epi-pen cost. Ask your allergist for the $0 co pay card. You should also still be able to get the non-talking ones. I do understand both are the same price. But you should be able to get them for essentially free if you have insurance. Or find another allergist.

I got a 100 dollar off card from the allergist. It STILL cost 300 dollars. I have no fucking idea why my insurance's negotiated price is..full price. I thought it had to do with my deductible, but my own meds are same ridiculous 400 bucks for three months cost that cost...6 dollars under my currnet insurance. (Hell, it cost 40 bucks if you just get a discount card from Walmart. Prescription drugs are a fucking racket. You can't tell me it costs 400 bucks to make a generic  med when Walmart sells it for 60, and grabbing a GoodRx prescription off an app gets it for you for 80.

It's not worth explaining at this point.

I'd like some ideas of things I should do before I am again saddled with a job.

Idea 1)  Bombing the interviews so you're not saddled with a job.

How are we supposed to answer that ?  You got any things that you've been dying to do and never had the time ?  Travel is usually the big one, or some kind of thing that you just wouldn't get away with once employed.  (Dye your hair green or shave your pubes or something.)

I would personally go with 'Don't get saddled with a job', but bills need paid, I guess.

Everyone's different. I blew my time between jobs learning new software and dicking around on a few games.  I also went around the house and did a few projects that I always said, "Man, that's like a week of straight work to do. It would take a summer of weekends to get it done.."  This included recaulking the windows and repainting the house interior and replacing all of the faucets.

I had 2 1/2 months of unobstructed time, though. How much time you do or don't have, as well as how free you are from the wife and kid all affect this.

I was unemployed for 13 months. I golfed, gamed, watched a lot of shitty daytime TV, cooked, drank, travelled by car to visit relatives, and went to a lot of sporting events that were low cost. $5 tix to a Braves game on a day game? I was there.

I'm almost always unemployed.  Most jobs are like death only more active.  Make a bucket list.  Don't spend the entire time being unemployed making the list, though, do some of it, too.  I only say that because I can see myself obsessing on the list.  Personally, I enjoy saving up all my money and then living in another country for six months.  You could do that.

Or, buy a 3D printer and start your own business and never worry about finding a job again!  (I saw that on a pop-up advert)

It was probably directed at me, since I was the only one starting a (failed) personal funding thing that I can recall. I also thought it was VERY mean, and I sure hope that some of you have more sensitivity in RL than you appear to display here on forums. I also hope none of your backs crumble to dust or need to fight poverty to attempt receiving disability (which TAKES 3 YEARS).

Sorry to hear about robberies, health issues and other associated posts in this thread I lurk and never reply to.

Erm, yeah, that wasn't it at all.  And I don't even know what you are referring to.  But if I managed to make several of you believe that wasn't the greenest of green sarcasm, then mission accomplished I guess.
