Sounds like we're about to get all the rain we missed last year in one storm tonight/tomorrow.
Okay, not really, but my manager just encouraged us to work from home tomorrow because it's going to be the Apocalypse out there. (Or as he said, "something in England we call weather.")

We're supposed to get our first big snow of the year here in Toronto tonight. Just 5 or 10 centimeters though. Not like poor Buffalo who has already been buried to the point where roofs were collapsing.

We were supposed to get some big Nor'easter (that's such a stupid sounding term) yesterday or today but it appears to have missed us. It was foggy and kind of misting yesterday but today has been dry.

What's the proper thread if I'd want to rant about the state of the Austrian "air-force"?

I don't think I write good enough to pull of proper funny. True story, but nothing special. Just a bit pathetic, clownshoes and "thank nothing bad actually happened".

They're getting a bit carried away in the UK media with the superlatives they use to describe bad weather. This week we're apparently getting a "weather bomb". Which seems to mean it'll be cold and wet and windy. Like most Decembers.
Fuck knows what kind of language they'll start using when climate change really kicks into gear. Drizzle'o'geddon? Fogpocalypse? Snowtastrophe?

Damn. Must suck to be a satirist these days, the real world is already so ridiculous it's a self-parody.

I visited a technical training / hedge fund group last night for work. It was an interesting environment. Boys' Club main office of programmers, researchers, traders, etc. Back Office support mostly female (all off-site).
I don't think I've seen so many four monitor setups as I did there. The white board wallpaper in every office was a nice touch.

Which is why you use sheets of melamine. Sure it holds marks after a while but you can replace it 2 times before you hit the cost of a can of whiteboard paint.

Whiteboard paint may have gotten better in the last few years, but when we tried using it in our meeting rooms at work it was not nearly as good (in terms of erasing cleanly) as a normal (cheaper) whiteboard.

Ours is 3.5 years old, until I came along they used the absolute shittiest markers available, the board itself is very slightly more difficult to clean than a normal whiteboard but I will say that at least it can be cleaned. I have had a few whiteboards that after 3 years of use had ghosts of crap all over them that I just could not get off. Of course this might not be a fair comparison because the same people insisting on the shittiest markers were probably buying the shittiest whiteboards.

As a poor college student I frequent the 99 cents store, where failed products nearing expiration dates go to die.
I didn't realize they attempted Peanut Butter Poptarts. There was an entire shelf of 12-tart value packs for sale. I almost picked it up, but, sure enough, High Fructose Corn Syrup.
Friend who tried them said they aren't that great.

Unless it says "No High Fructose Corn Syrup" clearly on the front of the box, assume anything sweet has HFCS in it. Or not sweet. Really, just assume every fucking thing has it nowadays.

This is really true. I've noticed recently that a bunch of thing have "No High Fructose Corn Syrup" on the front label big enough to immediately notice. I guess it's become a good selling point or something.

True story, my wife and I lost almost 20 pounds a piece by just not buying/eating anything that had HFCS in it.

When I was at my highest weight ever, 240 lbs (5'7.5" frame), I went on a rigid Nutrisystem diet, dropped 20 lbs on that alone. Proper diet works, yo.
I'm floating around 165 now. Ay ya. I'd go back on Nutrisystem if I could afford it just to get down to 155.

I did Nutrisystem for a couple months. The one thing it taught me was the same thing as any diets.
If you are willing to control your portion sizes, and use actual measurements and weights, you will lose weight and get healthy. No estimating. No maybe it = this. If you actually adhere to serving sizes, you start to learn exactly how much crap you were eating before.
Pizza is a good example. One slice and a salad is fine unless it's gigantic. Like a normal pepperoni slice off a large pizza is about 300-350 calories. A green salad is about 250 calories with some decent dressing and stuff. 600 calories a meal, 3x a day, and some mild exercise 15-30 minutes a day.
You will absolutely lose weight.

This is why life is unfair to the single person. Unless I have a by the slice place nearby, this means I can't buy pizza, because it sure as hell isn't going to stay edible long enough to eat one slice per meal. Or I could buy a mini/personal pizza which is 1/5th the size of a large, yet costs 1/2 what the large does...

I lost weight many years ago eating pizza, a local shop had a girl who gave me free slices all the time.
Nowadays I'll generally buy a large pie about once a month and have two for dinner, one for lunch. Dinner, lunch, dinner, lunch, dinner.

So Time Warner is FINALLY updating their DVR hardware. Is anyone else in on the beta for the new hardware? I'm scheduled for an install Friday, couldn't talk them into letting me just trade in the box at the local branch.
