The only coffee I normally drink are Frappuchinos...

I guess I don't really like coffee much, but I sure love coffee-flavored desserts.  Ohhhhh, I see.

Oh, and Starbucks-Mexico seems perfectly fine to me.

So who the fuck failed to tell me that in 4th grade my kid would start playing the fucking trumpet?  It's kinda like being kicked in the balls for 20 minutes a day.

Clarinet.

Could also have been one of the school systems here. They require kids start learning in first grade. I can only imagine how awful that sounds.

A trumpet is louder than all of those things, particularly because it is easier to play loudly with no skill.

Clarinet is the worst instrument.  Sure, others are louder, but there is no sound on earth like a poorly played note on a clarinet.  Imagine a flock of geese attacking a kid playing a trumpet, and you're getting close.

On the other hand, a well played clarinet...still sounds like shit.

Meh, Clarinets (well played) sound fine.  Not sure how you could really hate the sound.

But anyways, any of the major instruments being played by your standard unskilled kid sound horrible.  Every single fucking one of them.

I don't like or dislike jazz.  Mainly, I was relaying some childhood trauma, memories of my sister murdering her clarinet.

All instruments sound horrible when misplayed.  Clarinets are in their own class of horrible.  Fuck clarinets.

Yes, Honeycrisps.  My sister picked up some last week.  They were huge and not very tasty.  The smaller ones are almost always tastier.  The other day I picked up a bag at the produce market and they were much smaller and absolutely lovely.  The red Anjou pears are nice this season, too.  My fruit bowl runneth over.

Bigger ones have more water which destroys the flavor because it does't produce any more just for the size.  You REALLY notice it in strawberries and oddly enough watermelons.  Small round ones just taste better than the traditional big elliptical ones.

I haven't seen Honeycrisps in the stores here yet. I'm very disappointed because I've been craving one.

Pumpkin spice anything is usually shit. The only 'pumpkin' flavored good I've found worthwhile is pie (ye gods do I love some well-made pumpkin pie), creme rolls and the powdered "latte" drink from Speedways. (And even then you have to add a bit of French Vanilla to it to make it really shine.)

I agree it is terribly bad for you in large doses and in the sugar quantities we're exposed to in anything not homemade, but there's whole segments that say ANY SUGAR EVER is bad for you now.

Tried too, but it was too low on the horizon. The sole disadvantage of the new house over the old one. I can't see the sky because I have trees that are taller than 8' now.

No, ALL sugar is poison and you're just perpetuating the cycle with your uninformed agri-food-pharmecutical double-speak, man.  Break the cycle, free your mind!

Quote
Lustig argues that sugar creates an appetite for itself by a determinable hormonal mechanism – a cycle, he says, that you could no more break with willpower than you could stop feeling thirsty through sheer strength of character.

I don't know about 'toxic' or 'poison' as terms, but 50g of sugar in something that has virtually no nutritional qualities is a bit much and I know if I consume that I won't feel well after.

Personally, I've found that consuming something that sweet deadens my ability to taste other sweet things, so I have to find something even sweeter to fit as a replacement.  It's a terrible cycle for me, personally.  I do much better having a bite of someone's dessert or splitting with the table; it seems to balance it out for me.

Every time something interesting happens in the sky, it goes cloudy.    Heartbreak  Sometimes I miss living in the Southwest.  I loved the sky in New Mexico.

The worst sugar in the world is what ever kind they put in cotton candy.  Bleh.  Speaking of sugar, Halloween is coming!  I've decided that this year no sugar for the kiddies.  I'm thinking of handing out home-made (from pasta dough!) "I got your 666" pins made by my little niece and nephew for the kiddies and sugarless Fruit Chill Nicorette Gum for the obvious high school/uni bastards.  Pets get Greenies.  Who here doesn't hand out sugar for Halloween?  My sister will foil my plans again and we'll probably end up handing out
KitKats.   ACK!

I love Artie Shaw and Bennie Goodman. Well played clarinet is great.

I'm with Lantyssa. Sugar (in small quantities) is not as bad as a lot of the other crap in processed/ready-made food.

I'd rather have a good milkshake made with real ice cream (and sugar!) than one of those fancy Starbucks drinks. But then, I'd rather have a good beer than a good milkshake most of the time, although when the urge to have a black cow hits, nothing else will do (with good rootbeer and good ice cream).

I'll drink a soda once or twice a year, but vastly prefer those made with cane sugar than corn syrup (like Mexican CocaCola or Henry Weinhard's sodas).

Similar to Bunk, too much fog this morning/last night for blood moon viewing.

I think the daily recommended dose of Sugar is 50g, but sugar infests most products you buy outside of vegetables. Pumpkin Spice, I think, was something Starbucks created one year as a special and has since become so popular as a seasonal flavor that everyone's jumped on their own version of it.

Sugar's 4 calories per gram, but it's empty calories. I'm no nutritionist but I also think depending on the sugar type it can do crazy things to your blood sugar levels. Manufacturers have fought to have different sugars categorized separately (Dextrose, Sucrose) in order to make it so that "Sugar" wasn't listed as one of the top ingredients in their products.

My Economics teacher also stated that there's a fight going on by Corn Syrup producers to have it classified as a "Sugar", which makes sense given the stigma surrounding it, especially HFCS, omg avoid avoid avoid.

The corn lobby in the US is SCARY strong.  If you look at the items in the middle of the grocery store, nearly every one of them has a corn or corn byproduct in the ingredient list.  It's government welfare in the highest form.

That's before you consider that all the meat you eat has ingested corn in some form or another, AND your dog or cat's food is largely corn based.

Heard something the other day that if we stopped producing feed & fuel corn and switched to eating vegetables, we'd have enough farmland to feed something like double the world population today. I'm skeptical, but good lord do we produce a shitload of useless grain crop.

The corn lobby in the US is SCARY strong.  If you look at the items in the middle of the grocery store, nearly every one of them has a corn or corn byproduct in the ingredient list.  It's government welfare in the highest form.

The glorious part is how we let the producing states be the weed-out states in primary elections giving them even more power.  THEN we subsidize the hell out of the industry and let money= political speech, so we're paying taxes to make things even easier for the corn lobby to push even more corn products out there in place of other, better, alternatives.
