Waiting for the bus at 3rd and pike; there's an old hippie raving about seeing the hobbit in 3d today.  He's going on like it was a double rainbow or something.

Nicely backdropped by a dude playing the drums coming from one direction, and a dude playing the bagpipes from the other?

Yep.  Bagpipe dude usually plays at Westlake right outside my office.  We usually can hear the summertime steel drummer during meetings.  :)

Our company Christmas party on the weekend was held at a Grand Masons Hall, and hosted by Gary Jones. http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0006012/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t6

*sigh*

Got a text from the husband a bit ago:

Quote
My dad has cleared turn four and is headed for the stripe. Probably less than 24 hours. Might travel myself tomorrow. My mom is losing it.

Damn it all.

He's going to see about flying out there tomorrow, coming back on Friday so that we can turn around and fly back there on Sunday for the week.  Heartbreak

Blech, sorry to hear that Rhyssa.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Thanks, folks.  It's tough because when I saw him in late September, he was getting around find with a walker and feeling about as well as you can going through chemo.  The decline in just over a month since he stopped treatment is just... crazy.  Husband is flying out early tomorrow and coming back on Friday evening.  At least the MiL laid down the law for my bro-in-law and he and GF are arriving on Wednesday/Christmas Day instead of pushing it off until the weekend (which would have meant our visits didn't overlap).  Bro-in-law is eroding his favored child status with this situation.

Sorry, Ryssa.  Shitty time of the year for it.  :-(

Dad's decline was quite rapid after my parents and the doctors decided to stop treatment.  A month of 'okay', and then mostly being bed-ridden the last month.

I think having a separate space for those people has already been tried a few times.

Oh come on.  These guys are douchebags of the highest order, but if you're reading segregation into that, I think you're really, really reaching.

I don't think it's intentional, but the execution is lacking here.

I thought that was the execution failure: enact a separate place for non-normals.

In related news, AMC censored the word "midget" in O Brother, Where Art Thou.

Maybe I'm just blind to the nonsense after so many years of serving the public in a library where 'diversity' is 'normal'.

I didn't read it as segregation as much as an educational resource for learning about issues. That's pretty standard, though from long experience, it usually just ends up being a place to preach to the choir. Despite that, I don't think the idea is that terrible and at least they're trying to do something. The problem is they exempt their own behavior from what they're structurally trying to do at their conferences.

Yeah, it's not an area where they're putting the contaminated people, it's an area where people can go to learn about the deviance.

Get all psyched up because I think I have to do a Wordpress training for a client today, then realize it's not until tomorrow. I was hoping to get it out of the way. As it is, work is so dead for me right now, I'm wondering why we are bothering to be open until a week after New Year's.

Until gaming is approached as a real business, with all the inherent HR and productivity restrictions/rules, this is never going to change.

Seriously. While we do have some patronage, it's mostly the regular internet addicts and people stocking up on books for the weekend that know what they want. I was just sitting in the office playing guitar for the librarians and we were wondering the same thing. Luckily I have most of next week off.

We're just open enough that I can't take things offline and work on them, but it's too slow for the troubleshooting/help queue that normally keeps my adhd in check.

So, never.  Gaming will be the 2nd to last bastion of white guys bitching about how bad they have it.  The first being manufacturing.  Fuck, gaming makes construction look progressive these days and that takes some damn effort.
