Beagles aren't really good small household dogs. They are hunting and working dogs. Putting a beagle in the family as a housepet without a very large yard is counter to their breeding and nature.

Happy Birthday to everyone who's happy about their birthday.  I guess Paelos is almost 20 again.  Don't bother correcting me, I refuse to believe it.  I love beagles.  Beagles and Greyhounds are probably the two most abused dogs.  Beagles because of research and Greyhounds because of sporting.  I just really love animals and hate seeing them suffer.  As much harm we do to them, they usually always remain loyal and loving.  I could go on about how horrible people are, but I won't.  Only because I'm tired of seeing myself type.

Beagles are too small.  Greyhounds are pretty chill once they retire from racing.  "Pit bulls" are probably the most misunderstood/abused breed these days, at least in the US.  I still prefer Goldens.  I'm trying ot convince the husband we need to get our next furkid from the local shelter, at least a year old, so we can avoid the puppy stages again but have a pet that will hold it's own against our Golden cow.

That's our approach, since no one wants them.  Although for long trips we arrange someone to come by and deliver the wet food.  In the final analysis they could support themselves on birds and mammals.  I don't know what people with indoor cats do, but I'd be afeared of leaving any number of cats alone in my domicile for more than two days.

I have long been a dog lover, but after having 3-4 for the past 10 years I think this is the answer.  I'm about done with them.  I want to be able to walk in my backyard without fear of stepping in doo again.

We were just having the dog conversation last night. I love dogs (and cats), had several growing up (and yes mutts are best!). I'd like to have a big ol' mutt or maybe a Lab or Goldie or my personal favorite, Akita (pro trained, of course). But having to find a dog-sitter every damned time we go out of town would suck. And the level of intimacy with steaming dog crap. I had dogs before you had to get a handful of warm dogshit everytime you went for a walk.

My in-laws can typically watch my cats.  Some of our friends that have us check on their cat will only ask us to check once a week.  Their cat does awesome on his own.  Well, there's a lot of puke, but that dries.
