Just understand that no matter whose responsibility the dog is at the beginning, you'll be the one taking care of it from 2 weeks after you get it until death.

Less than ten hours later, I'm baby sitting this thing already.

Various puppy drama incidents.

Insects in Hawaii kind of depends on the island. Technically not insects I guess but last time I was on Kauai there were shitloads of spiders.

Tell me if you've been to Georgia or not, so I can gauge your level of "shitloads".

I had a bunch of dogs growing up, high water mark was three at once. While it was awesome for 3 season when they could poop in the back meadow, I came to hate winter and cleaning up the basement where they spend the night. Thus, while I love dogs, I don't do the whole picking up dog doo thing anymore. Especially the whole walk your dog where you are carrying a warm bag of dog shit for half the walk. Eww.

The cat litter box I just upend into a garbage bag. Much better.

I know I'm probably the only one here who really enjoys meetings (probably because ours are productive), but that does not extend to conferences. In a room full of people mostly above my paygrade and wasting time listening to fluff presentations isn't how I like to waste a day. Tomorrow I'm bringing distractions, Lovecraft and maybe a couple trade paperbacks. Any more of this nonsense and I might begin to understand how people get in the habit of burying themselves in their phones. At least the vendors didn't hassle me once they heard 'library' and I entertained what passed for booth chicks with racy stories from my past.

Too bad I don't have a degree, I'm wicked good at networking with brass, found out the guy I hit it off with was a VP of a security firm.

If you are good at networking, the lack of degree should not be too much of a hindrance.  Conferences are not really about the presentations.  I'd be further along if I'd have been able to go to them.  Also golf.  Alas.

I should have been more specific. Going to be in Virginia Beach on business by myself. Staying away from the beach down in "town center" wherever that is.

Usual stuff.  Overpriced chain resturaunts galore.  There is a funny bone there.

How clueless are you?  I mean, she was obviously trying to tell you that she, too, has a blow-hole and is not afraid to use it.

Airport bar?

Early risers took my blowhole joke.  Anyway, watch out for crazy chicks.  I mean, it's fine if they go away sooner rather than later.

Phrases I never expected to hear myself say. Part 347: Wow Spanish cable companies are super efficient!

Went to the nearest Movistar (née Telefonica) office yesterday afternoon to arrange for my new apartment to get hooked up to some sweet fibre optic loving. The technician just called to tell me he'll meet me at the apartment in an hour to connect everything and 100MB internet will be go!

So, Calgary flooded last night. Over 100,000 evacuated from their homes and our downtown core is completely shut down.

What a mess. Glad I don't live anywhere near the rivers. The pictures are surreal to me, as many of them are places I was at yesterday and now covered in water.

Yea there is not much near there that is very interesting. In fact that whole part of town is like one big strip mall. I stayed in the Westin in the town center a few times and its not bad. You are going to have to travel a bit to get to anything halfway interesting.

Luckily, in Toronto we bullied our rivers into submission decades ago.  They know that just one false move will get them wrapped up in a pipe and buried forever.

First day of summer offiically, so I went to Costco and had one of the hand-dipped ice cream bars. Those things are ridiculously good and awful for you.

First day of Summer.  Pffft.  It's only been like the third consecutive week we're above 105.   Ohhhhh, I see.

Well, at least it's not Phoenix.  They're 5-10 higher on average and the entire city just radiates heat due to all of the concrete.

I recall reading that Phoenix not only has the "heat island" effect due to the glass and concrete but there's so many evaporative coolers downtown that now they have high-humidity to go along with that heat on many days.

We like to bitch. I'd rather have the heat than other natural disasters.

Plus, you know, family, jobs, etc.

I may be moving soon anyhow.  Wife is interviewing for jobs in San Francisco.  Earthquakes, traffic, and everything costs a ton.  YAY.  Weather is a bit more tolerable.

I pretty much agree with this unless we are talking about extremes.  Somehow I think that mankind could persevere through a longish term -50 catastrophe better than we could a long term +200 catastrophe.
