Just a little background:
I've been reading the Wheel of Time series forever. I think I started in middle school (I'm 32 years old now) and I used to read these books whenever they came out. I think I've re-read the series multiple times as new books came out. My last foray was when book 10 came out (ten fucking years ago) and I got half way through and said fuck this and stopped reading them. I promised myself I wouldn't touch the books until the story was done.

So now I'm reading them over again. I'm currently on book 10  and I want to vent. I'm spoiling this just in case, please don't spoil past half way through book 10 if possible.

As an aside, I didn't want to taint the book thread with this shit.

Thanks for reading/not reading my rant.

My advice? Stop right now, read the plot synopsis of the next two books, and just start up with #12 again when Jordan finally keeled over and died. Sanderson does a much better job with pacing.

EDIT: Also I just finished Sanderson's Stormlight Book Way of Kings? He knows how to write. It's very good if you like characters shifting on uneasy ground.

I really looking forward to Sanderson because I love his writing style. I'm looking forward to the Way of the Kings books, but I won't read them until they are close to being done.

I think there are 10 volumes, so that may be around 2035.

Actually, Sanderson seems to be a writing fiend and gets things done pretty quickly.  And he's a young guy in decent health AFAIK, so hopefully we won't have to wait ages for the various books to come out.

I have a couple of friends who are assholes.

Nothing to do with lawyers tho.

Yeah, but if they were lawyers, they'd have HUGE penises to fill their own assholes with.  No offense to any lawyers or lawyers to be here because I LOVE f13 lawyers to bits.  BITS!

I seem to be having a penis oriented day today.  :(

Yeah, but he loves writing the starts of series moreso than the ends it seems.  He just announced yet another new series that is not the second way of kings book.

That sounds frustrating, have you read Game of Thrones Draegan?  Grin

That is the one exception to my rule. a decade ago I read up through book 3 when it came out. When 4 came out I refused to read it. But because the TV show came out I read all the books because I knew they would be spoiled on the internet.

So yeah, Martin can suck a dick too, but at least books 4 and 5 weren't as painful as this one I'm on.

I was re-reading the WOT books just like you, Draegan.  I'm just going to skip to the last one and read it and be done with it.  There's just too much crap in there to be worth reading.

GRR Martin is getting into the same mess-  too many loose ends and he's losing the story.  The only saving grace is that he's ten times the writer that Jordan was.

Thanks for reading/not reading my rant.

10 is dreadful.  Just a plainly awful book.  Rest of the series picks up.  Jordan got back into a groove before he kicked the bucket.  Parts of 11 are a bit of a slog, though.

I've really worked on my skimming skills. I'm reading book 10 at record pace, unfortunately it makes me fall asleep in record time.

I'll second this, since you apparently missed it in the book thread, Draegan.  If you read the summaries and go "wait, what" maybe read through the referenced chapters, but no more than that.   Jordan was blatantly milking shit and it only gets worse in 11 with very few threads tying-up and advancing the plot.  However, those threads were also introduced in book 9 or 10 so.. fuck that entire section of the series.

You can skip 9-11 almost entirely and only miss 3 major plot points that were set-up in earlier books.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

Be careful believing whatever statistics the school is throwing out regarding employment, they fudge the hell out of those and don't account for underemployment.  We have people from top law schools asking to come work for us for free to get experience because the market is so shitty right now.

And a lot of those shown as "employed" are actually graduates who have been placed in jobs at outside entities whose salaries are paid by the Law school.

My friend that graduated from law school at University of Idaho got a job out of school. According to her 70% of her class doesn't have one and 20% that do are working in extremely low paying jobs working for judges. It is rough time out there. Of course UI is not a top law school but its not really a slouch.

I've noticed some of my students getting accepted to Law School lately that wouldn't have been accepted 10 years ago.  I wonder if the two go hand-in-hand?

That's why I married a woman older than I (when I was 25). Now that I'm 30-something, we both make a lot of money and everything is chill - except for running around with a 3yo and 1yo, but that's a different kind of busy.. less emotionally draining.

I'm from Texas originally, so yes that meets the good school requirement. However, it's most effective in the state (like most state schools). If you have plans of living elsewhere after graduation, things get a little tougher. Also, the class ranking thing still applies.

It's especially effective if you want to go into politics in Texas. If that's the case, I'd suggest not posting in this forum anymore. It'll haunt you.

UT is a nationally ranked school-  around 15-20, I believe.  So, yes, it's regional, but if you're in the top 20% I think you'd be okay getting a job.

There's no way I would make it in Texas politics: I'm liberal and I don't take the idea of Texas very seriously.  YOU HEAR THAT NSA?!
