I've always wondered if there's a point where it just stops being lego.
When you can put a real engine in it and use it as a vehicle.  Which might make it even cooler.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

B-wing is the new "advanced" limited edition kit this year.  I have the Tie interceptor from a few years back and really want this.  how is it, mrnoisy?  The number of people who don't understand that and have given the model a low score for not coming with a mini fig "like all their other sets" is pretty surprising.  There re also some complaints about the wing falling off and the base being unstable.

I've always wondered if there's a point where it just stops being lego.

About the time it becomes a model and you place it on a shelf, never to be altered from that configuration.   That's a $200 kit, not meant for the kids but man-children with a strong sense of nostalgia.  I still want it.

Yeah - the UCS kits are much more 'model kits without glue' than actual LEGO kits.  I loved the build - the cockpit and main wing make use of some interesting pieces I haven't seen much of before and it comes together in a very gradual but logical way, with a couple of 'aha!' moments throughout.  There aren't elements of genius like the non-UCS X-wing that came out a while ago (the nose and wing mechanism are brilliant in that one), but building this kit is definitely a great way to kill four hours or so.

As far as durability goes, the S-foils are only held on by studs and the notched hinge elements (as opposed to making use of Technic pegs like the other parts of the kit), so they can be a bit tricky to reposition without them coming off - anyone experiencing separation of the main wing/body elements is treating a 2' model a bit too much like a toy.  The stand doesn't actually attach to the model, so it's a little wobbly.  I wouldn't display it in a high-traffic area.

I didn't even know they did a B Wing.  Awesome.

This isn't the first B-Wing they've done, but the 'regular' minifig-sized B-Wing is out of print now.

Seems like a fucker could build his own B-Wing without some asshole telling him how to do it.

If you had the parts, sure.  The toy B-Wing with the minifigs? Not hard to do at all.  The 24" long B-wing with all the pipe pieces and the technic parts? Not enough Lego at my house, cheaper to buy the kit.

If you can use the specialty stuff in combination with your run of the mill pieces to create totally original things then those kits are in fact, still, Lego.

For some reason I thought somebody posted a weird recipe with crackers and jello and other things somewhere in F13. I didn't pay enough attention to it. Now I think I dreamed it.

Rhyssa did in the Christmas thread when we were talking about office parties.
Pretzel jello somewhere upthread of here.
Thank you! I thought I was losing my mind.

Thanks everyone - the "poor" dog is being carried around everywhere until the surgery, so I think he'll manage. Sucks when animals are hurt and you can't explain that it'll be ok and the pain will go away soon enough. At least with my kids I can smack 'em and tell them to suck it up, right?

I chalk it up to most of us knowing it's the same as going from 1999 to 2000.  It's the end of a cycle, and the apocalypse stuff got tired before even zombies. Which are tired AND sad.

The British just had to launch a high tech military satellite called Skynet the day before the world is suppose to end, didn't they:

Oh FFS.  Edited a template for the manga forum to get rid of the ugly default blue one IPB gives you.  Turned it on today for users to use and give feedback on and was in the template trying to update a few things at the same time the other admin was in there trying to fix the same things, apparently.  Something got messed up, he did a "revert changes" and it reset the entire template back to base - which was the default blue.  Now I have to try to rebuild at least some of it from memory.

ARGH.

Sigh, Gangnam style official video is now past 1 billion views on Youtube: planet Earth is seriously in need of a reboot. Well, maybe the next apocalypse will be the right one.

I'd reboot the world for Beiber being the top trend on twitter way before Gangnam Style. I rather like it. It's kind of transcendent irony. Mocking the very pop culture it has become a part of. Or something.

Good god this thing was fragile.  It was only put in third place for fragility ranking by one of their Millennium Falcon designs and a horrific AT-AT.
