Sorry to hear that.  What age ?
Honestly not sure.  My SiL is the exact same age as my husband (really, she's like 3-4 hours older than he is, same b-day) and is an only child, so I'm guessing mid-60s.

Terrible news, Rhyssa.  Condolences.
Thanks.

Just got some more info from my mom about what happened.  I guess nephew was at SUIE getting the frame of a solar car his club is working on, using grandpa's truck to pull the trailer.  While driving it to Scott AFB, trailer came off hitch (2 5/8" hitch on a 2" ball  swamp poop )and nephew had to call g-pa to come out and help get it back on the hitch because some yo-yo took the jack and other tools off the trailer.  So g-pa calls SiL to watch her mom and her grandma (woman is 90+ and still going strong) while he helps nephew.  While SiL was there, her mom stopped breathing and that was it.  CPR didn't help because apparently it was the nerves that control the heart (which also lead to the legs) that just stopped working, hence heart stopped.  My brother is 3 hours away and isn't coming home until Tuesday sometime for the wake and funeral on Wednesday.  Just sad all around because now my SiL feels like there is something more she should have done and my nephew, who was really close to his g-ma, is feeling bad that it was because of him that g-pa wasn't there.

Fireplace is a delightfully primitive term.

I feel like referring to the bathroom as the waterplace.

It can be the water closet.  I'm not sure if you can have a fire closet, though.  Sounds dangerous.

If you close the door, the fire goes out.  If you leave the door open, the pee stays in.

The hell with it...if I'm going to whore myself, I'm going to expose it to everyone!  ACK!

Repost from the minis thread downstairs:

Normally I wouldn't stoop to asking this, but the spirit of the competition was 'getting started', meaning getting new and returning painters into the hobby...and then a couple accomplished painters put in some kick-ass entries. So...the hell with that, I'm going to ask:

Can you guys please head over to the Studio McVey forums and register, then vote for my mini (deadline is thursday night)? I'm Komoto on those forums.

http://studiomcvey.com/forums/index.php?/topic/581-getting-started-voting-thread/

I'm going to vote for what I feel is the strongest non-ringer entry, either Orlando's or Obsidian Crane's. (Blood Bowlians know how I feel about ringers :))

Thanks, and now I'll go try to wash off the guilt.

It's a superbly geeky miniatures game.  It's even more geeky than Warhammer/40K.

Got bored and decided to convert a nearly decade old laptop into a linux box. Replaced the battery, and upgraded to 2 gigs of RAM and so far been surprisingly happy with Linux Mint on it.

Linux Mint is pretty fun.  About once every year I get bored and go through all the linux distros trying to find one that will knock them all out of the park, but never really seem to find it.  I don't know enough about Linux to be worth a shit when it comes to getting odd stuff installed, but I've set up a couple of Archlinux boxes.  In the end, it comes back to the fact that Windows 7 and OS X are vastly superior to all of the Linux distros.

I have thought about doing a hackintosh, but just don't have the patience for fucking around with it.

Cinnamon for whatever reason wouldn't render fonts properly on this box on the initial install, so I ended up going with MATE until I have some time to really beat on it.

Butter Pecan ice cream is my favourite.  It was my mom's fav, too.  I used to get the Bryers because it was less creamy than most and the pecans were slightly salty.  It's been a million years since I've had any!

Pistachio ice cream is also underrated.  Baskin Robbins used to have a pistachio ice cream with a fudge ribbon.  I could eat gallons of it.

There are a couple of family owned Eiscafés in town where the family make their own icecream in the basement of the building based on whatever seems like a good idea to them at the time. We get awesome flavours like Amaretti, chocolate with black pepper or chili chocolate as a result.
