That's catchy.  Maybe you can also tell people that you are going to Cease your Stagnation in support of their idea.

This rather cool news article was forwarded to me this morning. Not only is it a heartwarming story but it also happened in the very tiny town where I live - in fact you can see my office in the photo (it's the building visible through the archway at the top of the street).

- And in stranger Iains, even Death may die -

I still get calls from crack-addled shitbags in Prince George's County Maryland trying to reach their old drug dealer Mike Max, as I adopted his phone number apparently when I switched to Sprint in 2001.

Some of these are repeat callers over the past 12 years. Some of them I play along with and give them random places in Washington DC to meet me. Sometimes I give them a cash deaddrop location, shame I can never check up on it.

The previous holder of our number was apparently a doctor who embezzled money and left a string of bad debts all over New Jersey and Pennsylvania and then seemingly went on the run. We used to get a ton of calls for him, I'd say that it was a wrong number, and the folks calling were like, "Yeah, right, put him on the phone RIGHT NOW." One collection agency called every thirty minutes for six hours one day until I threatened to sue them. That's pretty much died down now though--I'm thinking that somebody finally caught up with the guy.

Is it bad to have a margarita or two at lunch while I'm on Jury duty?   Ohhhhh, I see.

I rolled the dice that I wouldnt get picked and had two.   awesome, for real

Pro tip-  if you can postpone you jury duty to a Thursday or Friday before a long holiday weekend, not a goddamned thing goes on and you'll probably get to go home early.

I find that the moment they discover that my job title is a "forensic toxicologist" that they lose interest in me for jury duty.  It's not what I really do, but it's the position I filled because my work is very interdisciplinary.  It's very handy!

For the first time in my life I am in a position to possibly enjoy jury duty unfortunately being employed by a law enforcement agency gets you tossed pretty quick.

It's not even that-  90% of the people got to go home by 11:00 and everyone else was gone by 2:00.

Recent events:

Met an Estonian girl with HUGE hands.

Mother at baseball was complaining that her son never got to play infield during four years of baseball.  We watched him play third due to an injury and he failed terribly.  This is because he's got something wrong with him, but I can't explain this to her.

No work scheduled for the three-day weekend.

Version three of my MPIO path monitor, written in haste, actually works rather reliably.

Got free cake today.  This is my favorite one.

Maryland still kinda sucks, but today I got cut off by a woman on a cellphone who ran a stop sign. Who cursed at me when I beeped the horn. She continued around the corner, leading out her window and still causing, and rear ended a truck. I'm still walking around grinning.

You should try working in the arts or publishing (or, I suspect, any female dominated industry) free cake every single days.

Also I am interested to know more about the hands.

I'm at the "enchanted images" booth. Old timey costume pictures. It's my gfs gig, I'm just helping her out converting a booth she bought and doing the actual photography. It's between the raw oyster bar, and the White Hart noisy bagpipes bar. I'll be here another month, then off to Nc and my craptastic but better than this dsl.

Don't bring anymore rain with you, last weekend was plenty.

She should be okay.  She has had basically a constant UTI the entire time she's been pregnant.  We did a round of IV antibiotics about 6 weeks ago and thought it got squashed.  Now it's back, with kidney pain.  They've been unable to determine the root cause as the ability to do proper imagery, i.e. CT scan, is limited during pregnancy.  My suspicion is that there's some blockage of her renal vessels due to the displacement of internal organs w/pregnancy and that this is leading to a low flow situation in one of her kidneys and therefore increased UTI problems.  Then again, whenever you're dealing with bacteria anymore it can be very dicey and particularly so with a pregnant lady and if the bacteria are resistant to antibiotics.

Cross your fingers for us!  I'm hoping she feels better soon.

Today I wrote my first check to the contractors for the big basement remodel (wherein I replace a big chunk of my foundation and bring my four unwarranted basement rooms up to code as livable space).  It hurts, but man am I looking forward to this thing being done.

Yeah, my sister wiped out a big chunk of their savings putting in a new bathroom.  Older house, lotsa behind the scenes work to be done, too.  It's not even a big bathroom.
