Colonel Angus?

I had an adventure last night finding and installing an a/c unit for a wonderful 93 yr old lady. Went to ask a buddy who lives near her if I could use his table saw (for the plywood plocking, she has old horizontal casement windows). Turns out he has a unit in his shed, so we grab it and his tools and put it in for her.

Found out she needed it because she told my fiancee that her cleaning lady had taken her only fan to take apart and clean the blades.  swamp poop

If it's a firewall in question, "Consistent NAT" (or the equivalent) and disabling any automagic transforms have fixed many NAT-related issues for me.

In other news, my toaster oven just bought the farm.  Silly me, thinking I could clean it.  Off to locate a new one...

They can actually die? Wow. I've had mine for about twenty years. The numbers are completely worn off the temperature dial, so I set it by memory.

I use it over my regular oven probably 20 to 1.

We are a hyper-gemophobic nation.

Surprise, things people touch have shit on them!  Surprise, 60% of men take a piss then don't wash their hands.  Nevermind that underwear is just a nice sealed environ to keep poo particles near your scrot after farting.

If you think on it you'll go mad and start wearing rubber gloves and a mask everywhere.

The heating element still works, mostly, if you give it 5-10 minutes longer than the directions say.

Interestingly enough, I'm not a germaphobe at all.  I think that putting all these antibacterial compounds in every substance we use is detrimental to human life.  Commensal organisms are pretty much required for us to function at our peak.  I do find hotels super creepy though, for more reasons than just the semen and blood and feces.

Aye, cant wait to get out. Poor ventilation + Sydney humidity + mountains of rain + no dryer for the last month = everything in the apartment is damp (including all my books) so mould is hardly surprisIng. Hopefully the expensive shoes thus afflicted can be saved.

Six grand for a hundred linear feet of basement channeling + sump well. The joys of homeownership, I just paid off the initial loan I used for a bunch of projects when I bought the house...so the budget stays at 'broke'. It was a nice two months having an extra hundred bucks. And he's going to do it in July, the month of crazy. Go live with the new reservation and print management software, so I'll be working 7 days for the next two weeks at least, half the library is on vacation so training dribbles through the month, plus I have 4 damned concerts that equal 5 days off.

On the upside, transferrable lifetime of the structure warranty and I'll get about 500sqft of finishable basement space, which is my workshop and a music studio.

And no more lugging the full 6-gallon wetvac up the stairs, through the house to dump in the back yard.

Signed the papers for our refi last night. Dropped over 2 points in interest and ~$450 a month in payments. Plus we get about $1800 back from our escrow account and get to skip our payment in July. I am rich!

Hurray for HARP II, btw  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Today I learned that Photoshop has a subscription plan.   So. Very. Tempting.

Wow, grats, Way!  I'll be eligible for a re-fi here in a few weeks.  Looks like I can drop almost $230 off the monthly if I go with a 30-year.  I think that'll be a total of 8 or 9 years off the mortgage if I continue paying at the same rate, plus lots of wiggle-room if things go sideways on me.  Woo.

We use their stuff. It has problems but according to my boss, it is still way ahead of any competition in terms of features and reliability. Which I agree is sad but having seen some of the shit pieces of software that are foisted off on libraries that they are stuck with through vendor lock in makes me ill.

We have macs and pcs, so it's the only game in town.

It's not horrible, but they're very programmer  swamp poop at times. Like the "Instructions" box at the idle screen. We don't need the prose they put there, and it's an xml file, so voila: we can put use restrictions there (must be this tall to ride the internet).

Except they have hidden a hard-coding to the format somewhere, so I can't add any new elements (though I can subtract them). Since it also won't pass any xml carriage returns, I have to have a big paragraph block seperated by asterisks. That's the not-serious feature request, a truly editable xml file for that.

The more serious stuff is 'concurrent' reservations. Which in envisionware-speak means both concurrent and multiple. So in order to allow patrons to reserve a computer for the afternoon (multiple) we have to allow them to sign up for simultaneous sessions, as it's a toggle. So the patron can request pc1, pc3 and mac2 for the current time. Derp. A ton of dumb things like that, and most would be easy to fix (splitting the current behavior into two features), almost everything I've requested is based off existing features or re-purposing lesser used features.

Ah, well. That's why I get paid the small bucks.
