There is no telecommuting, which is kind of silly imo.

Oh well.  If you want some consulting, though, my rate it pretty low and I'll have my business partner (wife) beautify the presentation.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

Beautifying the presentation is the most important part.

Public sector gets it's own special list of "wtfhood" and shouldn't be included in professional discussions because of that whole tax money thing.   If certain segments of the population had their way, the public sector would be sitting on stainless steel chairs in aircraft-hangars that make the cubicles in Gilliam's Brazil positively cheerful.

Bandwidth is a legit reason to throttle things, as is porn simply because of Liability, as Ched points out.  But we weren't talking about these, were we?  I explicitly mentioned Facebook, I don't know that Ironwood was expecting to allow folks to watch Redtube at work, either.

Work for a state-run research university.  Gigabits of bandwidth, and (at least here) IT is too lazy to segregate employee/student segments of the network so virtually nothing's blocked.

That's exactly my situation.  Though I don't give a shit if they track my internet time.  If I'm here working 80hrs and 6 days a week, I can screw off to my heart's content.

Boo. New guy came in and decided to clean house. Half of our team got hit including my boss and the other half is getting broken up and redistributed. At least I got severance, I feel bad for the half that's left, because they'll be gone in a month or two but without some cash to help them along. Time to look for a new job like everyone else, apparently!

After I take a week or two off, of course. So many games to play.

Thanks. The question is not "Can I find employment" it's "Can I find employment that is close, or in an area I would be willing to move to, working with cool people on an interesting project".

Fortunately, I am (hopefully!) eminently employable with marketable and up-to-date skills. For anyone who is curious / seeking, I am a Sr. Systems Engineer with a RHCE and full project lifecycle experience on designing for both Amazon's AWS/EC2 cloud offering and large VMware farms. And I have a clearance. I could also be an architect depending on your local definition, since I built the damn thing.

I think that sounds a little pretentious, though. I mean, I don't design buildings, I just sort of read the manual and put pieces of computer components together. Like LEGO. The people who design that stuff are way smarter than I am.

Server stays rock solid for two weeks and I'm chuffed to bits.  Finally go to use it for THE BIG PROJECT and it's mysteriously down.

If I go in tomorrow and find that my cunty co-workers have switched it off or pulled the cable, I'm going to fucking MURDER someone.

While that sounds sucky, you seem quite employable and, frankly, you're best off out as you say.

Heard on Friday that my old company that I fled is now out of money and trying to sell themselves.  They're fucked.  So many CV's now flying out the door, a year and a half too late.

Eh, maybe not. why so serious? I might offer condolences but if you got a severance, that's pretty good.  Good luck, though, finding one of those engineering/architecture positions, but you are carrying more buzzwords than I am.

Hmm.   Most of the time when I've taken out teeth it's to actually get people out of pain.  It's still fun though.

Well, it was the wobbliest tooth since Maisie and The Wobbly Tooth, so I just yanked it.

I've extracted a few teeth before with my fists and elbows.  Does that make me a dentist?

I think this all the time and then she goes and gets even more amazing.  So maybe not stop it completely but slow it down so I can enjoy each phase to the fullest.

Is that picture related to the question "Is it safe" ?

If yes, that movie gave me nightmares. And I only remember seeing one scene.

Thanks for bringing back that memory.  ACK!
