You'd think that, but the "Live Music Capital of the World" doesn't mean good music. It's the Amateur Live Music Capital of the World. The music here is mostly total shit. Other than festivals.

Yeah, but it's a hell of a place if you want to pound on a guitar and not bathe.

There's some good stuff that comes out of Austin though.  Ghostland Observatory and Spoon are not what you typically think of from Austin.  And Black Joe Lewis is fucking awesome.

Still being able to see Bowie at the backyard or Foo Fighters at Stubbs, I don't think most cities ever get these types acts playing in 300 seat venues, Austin is lucky enough to have this happen once or twice a year.

Funny, I was just right outside that Steak N Shake a couple weeks ago. I assume it was built with no public restroom?

There's a unisex customer restroom in the left rear corner.  It's TINY, no bigger than 5' x 8'.   There's an even smaller one in the basement for employees. You could wash your hands in the sink as you sat on the toilet.

I'm tempted to watch Letterman this week to see if they do the street camera in there at all.

I heard the Coke from them 'tastes off' though.  Something about how the micropour powder doesn't taste anywhere near the same as traditional syrup.

There's one in a sandwich shop I like. It tastes like ass. Something is very off about the diet coke flavor.

Yes, I agree Diet Coke tastes like ass.  And no, I've never tasted ass, but if I wanted to for some reason, I'm sure I could drink some Diet Coke (or diet anything for that matter).

Ok clarity: assuming the only awesomeness in Austin is game related (ignoring music), best game shops?  And fav restaurants?

Chango's for lunch (right near campus) whatever their monster burrito is (I usually go full veggie and get it with guac instead of meat).
Beef Ribs (pork are good too) at the Salt Lick out in driftwood are pretty much a must (BYOB), if you can't handle the 45 minute drive be sure and hit up the one in the airport (sausage sandwich is good).
BBQ Chicken at any Rudy's in town (extra moist brisket is good too).
Kerbey Lane is decent.
Blue Dahlia if you are feeling like some organic semi fancy food (good for lunch).
The oysters at Pacific Star are probably the best I have ever had, gumbo isn't bad and the shrimp perogue is awesome most everything else is fried and the place is a total dive.
Z Tejas has a reasonable brunch on the weekends.
Head north to Tomo if you like sushi.
Trulucks for some seafood ($$)
Sienna if you like wine and/or rustic french food ($$).
Some people like Eddie V's i'm not personally a fan though ($$).
If you feel like some game meat head out towards the lake and hit up Hudsons on the Bend ($$).
Conans for pizza.

Some of the best burgers I have had have been in Austin as well and there are tons of great burger joints (Dans/Frans, Mike's Pub, Players, Boathouse Grill, Sandy's Hamburger Hut, Huts, Burger Tex, Shady Grove, Waterloo).
If you are in the mood for a movie the Alamo Drafthouse is fun, if you like MST3K you could give master pancake theater a shot.

There are tons more and if you wanted to do a night of drinking and appetizers 4th street isn't bad.

So, my mother has been having some shoulder issues and she's going to a new hot shit sports/joint/whatever doctor out of Lake Placid, which has great sports medicine guys because it's the home of the US Winter Olympics training site.  Turns out I graduated with him, and knew the name but it was driving me nuts because I couldn't remember why.

Half way through the conversation with my parents, I realized that it was because one of my good friends dated an ex of his in college.  I tried to steer gently around the topic, until my father asked what the woman's name was and I had to blurt out "Dad, you can't ask the guy about how my friend Josh stole his college sweetheart!"  For a smart man, my father can be painfully dense.

I'm still really vexed because I can't remember a single thing about Erin Burnett from college...  with only 500 in a class, generally you either know or know of everyone you graduate with.

Welcome to Outlook/Exchange land. The amount of times in the last year I've said "Because it's Microsoft" when some non-techy account person asks me why we can't do something in an email blast is staggering.

I've been an Exchange person for years.  What really gets on my tits is every iteration seems to be worse.  They've actually removed the mailbox import/export cmdlets in this latest bag of shite and it's making things annoying.

Like, for example, imports and exports.

The one we've been using for the past 2 months still hasn't been properly configured for IMAP connections. This makes for fun email communications and leaves me feeling like Cato the Elder as every fucking email I send to the technical people we're using ends with "And get the email server configured for IMAP connections so we're not suing the godawful webmail client." I just need some pithier way of saying. That or a plane ticket to India and cricket bat.

Conversation I just had:

Company exec: (loudly) "Well, I tried my password to the system, which is (password), but it didn't work."
Me: (looks at the other 4 people in the room) "Well, even if it did work, I need to go change it again since you just told everyone what it was."
Company exec: "......oh."
Me: "Back in a minute."

Do you have an on-site appliance for this or are you using the Google-hosted version?

Well, that is a fantastic question. I like to be able to read my email and reply to it.  Saving and sending attachments is important.  Both Notes and Outlook seems to be doing other shit which interferes with my ability to do the things I want to do.

We're using a mass migration tool from our reseller, we're not doing the individual at-will data migrating thing as we want to have a hard cutover and not have to run around holding everyone's hands through the migration. We only have ~300 users though, maybe 800 GB of mail data.

Viin: hosted, the only things on-site when we're done will be the Active Directory sync server and the SSO server.

Hey, I'd love to have a choice.    Ohhhhh, I see.

What kinda timescale is that going to run over tho ?  800gb ain't gonna be done in a day.

We're figuring about a month if we get 1 GB/hour, which should be pretty easy - we might actually throttle it so we don't burst over on our DS3 and end up paying for a bunch of extra bandwidth. Our final go-live is in mid-March but we're going to be doing a fairly large pilot, and moving data early and just doing dual-delivery for a while. So basically we can spread it out over the next 2.5 months or so.

So Outlook is overkill for you.  Microsoft's solutions is just use the webmail client (which I think is crap although in exchange 2010 is much better but still crap).   I haven't used it but Windows Live Email is the updated version of Outlook Express which is pretty basic.  It works with exchange to.  Personally I have used and supported Thunderbird and its a bit to quirky for me to suggest to people.

We use Thunderbird exclusively (some of the execs use Outlook). It works pretty well for performing the actual email tasks, and has addons that support PGP and S/MIME (very important for us), event calendars, etc.

Caveat: everyone at my workplace has at least a master's in CS. Yes, Thunderbird can be quirky. why so serious?
