Those are nice, too, but I like the other ones a lot better. They like geek sexy or something. I can see someone like Clark Kent wearing them. You should get a cape for when you rest your eyes. Not a snuggie! A cape!

I don't wear glasses (or contacts) but that seems like a lot of dough for a pair. Maybe not.

People will pay crazy money for a pair of frames that cost $5 to manufacture if they have the right name on them.

Is that $500 with or without lenses? My current pair ran me $500, but a fair chunk of that went to getting decent transition lenses.

People will pay a crazy amount of money for anything that has the right name on it. I don't see how that defeats the purpose of having nice looking glasses. On that note, Oliver Peoples doesn't have some giant logo on the side or anything. You don't even know where they're from unless you look on the inside of the frame. Is that $500 with or without lenses? My current pair ran me $500, but a fair chunk of that went to getting decent transition lenses. With lenses I think it came to $867 but a good deal of it was paid by insurance. By far the most expensive glasses I've ever owned and I don't even have them yet, they come in mid-February.

The glasses i have now are by far the most expensive ones I've ever bought and they weren't as pricey as Schilds.
It's well worth it to me to have a good pair of glasses that I really like considering I have to wear them all the time.

That's my logic, I wear them every waking moment when I'm not sleeping. It's the only thing I wear that much. No cost can be assigned to getting what I like there.

Have you checked to see if you are a candidate for Lasik? The costs of those glasses would put you about 1/5 of the cost for the full retail Lasik procedure (and 80% of the cost of Igor the eyeball butcher).

Yeah, razorblades and lasers jabbing at your eyeballs for only a couple grand.
Or you could buy $500 glasses, and spend the rest on hookers and booze.

It's not as if they hack away at your eyeball with rusty hatchets or anything. My brother in law's father had it done and it took about 15 minutes, there was no pain during or after and he has perfect vision now. The only problem is that after a life time of wearing glasses, he can't get used to not wearing them. He feels off balance when when he does anything, even walking around the house. So he wears specs with non-prescription lenses.

I feel naked without glasses. I would still buy expensive glasses with ultra thin nonprescription lenses even if I got lasik.
Also, I'm not a candidate... yet.

I got lasik done 6 years ago and am already back to wearing glasses. My night vision was never very good and I started having to wear glasses again fairly quickly while driving at night or during low light conditions (rain etc). Now I'm pretty much wearing them full time except while playing sports. It's just easier than taking them on and off constantly.
My prescription isn't very strong, but it makes a huge difference when I have them on.

how does one become a candidate for lasik? I thought it was for just about anyone with poor eyesight. Obviously I am mistaken. But curious.

It doesn't work for all types of bad eyesight. However, as they develop the tech further the list of things it wont help with keeps getting shorter.

If your vision is too extreme in either way it's not recommended to have LASIK as the "side effects" (halos, etc.) become more pronounced because of the way your cornea is vaporized by the procedure.

Combination of nearsightedness, a poorly located astigmatism and something else makes Lasik unrecommendable for me even though it may work.
I can not see Voodoo wearing Prada glasses.

What is the average cost of getting some corneas and lenses from a dead person?

Ugh.
Just had to perform a bat removal. He scared the shit out of me when I turned on the lights in my living room and started flying around. Was very cute once I got him into the tupperware container for relocation, and I feel kind of bad about ditching him out in the winter.
My condo is in a converted 19th century brick schoolhouse with a fieldstone foundation.... the building is cool as hell, but there are soooo many cracks for critters to get in. Mister Bat probably crawled into a gap between bricks and decided to hibernate in the crawlspaces.

First of all, there are likely lots more in his colony. More importantly, why do you feel the need to relocate bats? They don't really carry rabies like people think.

I would consider a free pet bat in my condo to be a perk, not a problem. As long as he didn't shit on anything too valuable.

I thought about leaving him alone to see if he could figure out how to get back to the crawlspace, but I don't need bat guano on the carpet. White nose has been demolishing the bat population around here, poor buggers. It's staggering how many fewer bats you see in the summer.

I almost bought a pair exactly like that but yellow.
Also, the new 2010 Prada's are horrifying. These were Paul Smith.

This wife may be for life, which is odd. Maybe drinking less helps. Still working on babies, we only have so much time to get a couple more.
