Yeg, you need to show that 5 year-old who's boss.  I'm taking on two of the little bastards, and routinely busting out a can on their little asses.  Surely you can manage one of them.

I just ate pizza with mushrooms and prosciutto in Venice. Now I'm sitting in a museum at two in the morning waiting for some bloody Italians. Weird.

Of course I can manage one.  He won't, to use an earlier example, bonk me on the head when he wants to play fight.  He knows what would happen.

I was trying to show him how to shoot the bow this evening.  We have a looooong way to go.  A lot of it was a talk about bows and guns and how putting holes in people and things is bad.

Today I found out what Windows PowerShell is, and became excited.  Just now I find that it is already installed on my W7 RC rig, and I'm really excited.

Is this the part where we next find an article on Yahoo about a mad scotsman arrested for running around in just a kilt and a claymore screaming,"Broughden, I'm coming for you!" at a local mall in Glasgow?

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Happy Kitty Birfdays! Mine are in March/April.  Hello Kitty

On another note, I found a bug (a large gnat-type thing) in my mango juice when I was walking around downtown with it in an open cup. I don't know if it landed en route or if it came in the can, in which case it's a foreign Thai bug that'll prolly give me sleeping sickness or Hanta.  ACK!

I need a bit more insulation but I want to clean up the electrical first. It's a mess an under code in a few spots. But it gets to be a zillion degrees in my crawlspace, I'll get to it this winter sometime when it's nice and chilly in there. And yeah, need some more ventilation because it gets to be a zillion degrees in there. I'll probably do all of it myself, because I'm broke.

Fucked up when I'm doing a better job wiring the place than the professional who did the work originally (though that's an assumption). I'll be bringing in a pro to rewire my service panel. I've added some wiring, but they originally wired it wrong and I'd rather pay to have the entire thing rewired by a licensed electrician. They only used one ground bus, which is stepped higher than the other one, and the second is inaccessible. Lots of capacity left but no ground bus left. I got the two dedicated circuits I added grounded, but it was a chore.

I can't believe what a difference it has made already. We splurged on a solar attic fan instead of electric (got ~40% off by mistake, woo-hoo!) so the installation consisted primarily of cutting the hole in the roof. That, with the new insulation, has amounted to about a 10-15 degree F difference in our upstairs. The cost of the upgrade will be realized with the reduction in electricity (no longer running 4 fans upstairs 24 hrs).

Don't know how it is where you live, but if you don't do this in Oregon you can end up with a lien on your house. They don't just let anyone fuck around with wiring and electricity.

What you can do instead is do all the work yourself, then get an electrician to sign off on it. Most of them will give you a lookover and sign off on it if you know exactly what they are doing and is generally very cheap.

I do intend to have her look over the upgrades I've made when she comes to do the panel (whenever I can afford it...). I should mention my step-father was a licensed electrician and I've done a lot of wiring. Wish I could remember a fraction of what I used to know, I spend a lot of time reading books and codes to refresh before I touch anything. I'm wicked paranoid about it.

If this job ever goes tits-up, getting my license as an electrician is probably my best fallback.

Electricity is a good thing to be paranoid about! I'd hazard that being an electrician pays a lot better than being a librarian, but I bet it's not as much fun.  Ohhhhh, I see.

Most of my electrical mods were done as I was re-drywalling, the only way they will be spotting those is when the house burns down.

Your step-father would probably flip at some of the recent code changes.  I'm only tangentially aware of them myself, since I don't have to deal with that for permit, but things like arc-fault interrupts on EVERY circuit are apparently now standard.  I just depends on if your state adopted that change to the NEC or not.   swamp poop $$$

Since you have a panel instead of a set of fuses, and you say it's a mess, I'd put money on; "Someone's buddy who 'knows wiring' did it for a 12-pack one weekend."  I know of a few jobs like that around here.  Since it's all inside, nobody finds out unless they take the time to research it when buying the house and discover no electric permit was pulled.

Hmm, well... before I found JKDefrag, I have always wanted to have more control over disk defragmentation.  Some time later I began trying to teach myself C#, but I'm not properly wired at this time to handle Objects.  Just now, I'm pretty damn good at korn and perl as pertains to automation of complex UNIX administration tasks (I get tired of doing the same thing over and over, that's what the machines are for).  PowerShell brings a POSIX (-ish?) shell to Windows that can (I'm told) interface with the .NET framework.  The excitement, specifically, is that I can keep one foot in familiar territory while using the other one to stomp kittens on a Windows machine and perhaps learning something I can use in C# later.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.
