Name one thing, other than death, that does not cause or lead to cancer.

Cancer.

Not true.  Pancreatic cancer can lead to bone cancer.

PS  I also dislike Lactaid but I like eggnog.  As above, however, I don't really miss it.  I miss vodka the most!
You gave up vodka?  You poor thing.  And I thought being both lactose intolerant and celiac was rough.

The problem here is that people who cannot drink milk are trying to capture some sort of Social Grail by drinking white fluids that are not milk.  Perhaps people feel like outcasts if they don't eat cereal with milk.  Perhaps they dislike the political views of lactose.  Doesn't matter.  What matters is that if it doesn't come from a mammal's tit, it's not milk and you probably shouldn't be drinking it.  I put fake milk consumption into the same category as hair-straightening, skin-bleaching and those enormous anime contact lenses.

If you're not supposed to drink milk, quit faking it.  Isn't it tough enough simply avoiding processed foods that contain milk products?  I don't drink paint because I'm paint intolerant.
Asians consume massive amounts of soy mlk because they never got the mutation that Europeans got to be able to breakdown lactose as an adult. It's incorporated into a wide variety of both sweet and savory dishes.

Also, if you want to read an eye-opening book about milk (the dairy kind) read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell.

I seemed to not have borrowed that trait from my mom's side (both her and my half-brother, both Asian, can get sick from drinking it though). I drink lots of it..

My wife, who is Asian, drinks about a litre of milk every day.

Go figure.

No but seriously tolerance to the undigested lactose varies by individual. I can drink milk as well but large amounts will cause, uh, extra curricular digestive activity.

As for Yeg's rant about milks... eh. Yeah the dairy board tried to sue with that line too. Failed pretty quickly.

It can depend on how often you eat lactose. For some people (like myself) their bodies can develop the ability to break some of it down if they eat it on the regular basis.

All the milk talk is kinda weird.  I'd suggest a Milk Discussion thread, but that, too, would be weird.  Also, you people know way too much about milk.

It's not natural to drink anything other than human milk, so bodies have varying reactions to cow's milk.  No surprise really.

I also agree that soy milk shouldn't be called milk at all.  It's juice.  Bean juice.

Nope, same guys on this board in this thread.  Go look at the "Ice Cream from breast milk" thread or the one on the swede who was going to do the same thing.  Lots of  ACK! reactions to the very notion.

As to the formula within the first 3 months, there's 3 pregnant women in the office here right now.  Overhearing conversations between them and the previous mothers, the majority don't see the benefit. Their statement is it's too inconvient to pump or breast feed or they're frightened by the "It hurts!" from the older moms.  (Ignoring the one who just plain couldn't produce. )

I would be fine with breast milk ice cream from my wife or ex-wife, but the idea of some random woman's milk just seems wrong to me.

I agree with Nebu completely.  My real question is why someone who is lactose intolerant bothers to drink cow milk or its various substitutes?  I don't mean to say that you can't drink what you want, soy or coconut or what have you, but if you're trying to eat lactose-free ice cream then it seems like there's something wrong.

You know what makes me go  ACK!?  Considering nine months of no sex plus however long lactation continues.  That shit can break up a marriage.

Oban, just equate random women with large, six-stomached non-humans that stand around in their own shit, eating whatever they find in their feed troughs or on the ground.  That should ease your fears.

Yeah, I know.  And when I feel I can jump-in I do mention this.. then I get glares and "It's not YOUR body that has to do it, is it.  So it's awful piggish of you to have an opinion." style questions.  Yay.

Yeah I don't get those people at all.  You can have sex right up until the plug falls out and a soon as she's healed and not dead tired afterwards.  It's not a fucking terminal condition and she does't have cooties.   I don't know that I could have made it past month two.
