To my everlasting shame, I actually do know what they are talking about. There are things I miss about being a programmer (databases and client/server), fighting with middleware and API's are not on that list.

This has been a shitty second half to the week.

A Wednesday morning routine reboot of a VM host caused a spanning tree disaster in my production datacenter and a less than stellar (though no data loss which is a big thing) failover to the secondary one.

If anyone cares (and I know I don't because I forgot I actually made that post...) the actual moves went fine.  5 clients all got everything moved and shifted over to the right tenancy and the right tech and using the CSP billing model.

So, sometimes it DOES just work.  I had to practice it a lot, but I was really quite pleased with the outcome.

I'm also amused that some people probably have that filter that made Trippy say 'Butt'.

Cloud2Butt got uninstalled after the third or fourth time I had to open the AWS console in meetings with executives a few years ago.

EDIT: Though, right now, that makes me sad.. 'The Butt', indeed. :c

It actually filters "The Cloud" to "My Butt" and yes, I still have it installed.

A long time ago, I made the mistake of having a Harry Potter birthday party for my kid. I did a lot of fun things for it, and one of them was to help them make magic potions. One of these was "dragon's blood" which was red food coloring + baking soda + vinegar. I made the mistake of putting too much of that in too small a container, and got a kitchen ceiling covered in red food coloring as a result. I tried washing it off, and even super sponging it off, but...it kind of stayed there. So hah hah it was a funny story and I figured when the day came to repaint the ceiling it would go away.

Today, years later, after eight coats of primer/paint as part of the overall repainting of my kitchen, I am pretty close to surrendering. That shit is permanent. What do they put in it?

On the bright side, when you go to sell the house, you can tell people that the stain on the ceiling is definitely not splattered blood. You could even volunteer that information, or put a helpful sign next to the discoloration.

Some past owners of our current house had decided that fire engine red was a great wall color. It took 8 coats of green primer and dark green paint to cover it; lighter colors just didn't work and we didn't want to go through the pain of stripping out so much.

Lining paper is always the best solution to that kind of thing. It's a bit of a pain to hang, especially on ceilings, but once you get the hang of it (b'dum tsh) it's not too bad.

Have you tried Kilz paint? (oil based)  I haven't met a color yet that it wont cover.  There's also Kilz 2 (latex) which is nicer to clean up, but it it doesn't always cover in 1 coat if it's a strong color (like red).

I had fire engine red brick veneer with black mortar (both painted on). Since my living room was paneled and not insulated, I took all the down. Oddly, that wasn't the worst of it...at some point it had also been painted pink. Those kids only owned the house 3 years, but man...they left their marks on it. Still have the empty can of paint they used in the den. Godawful pink/purple..marked down to $5. Then slashed and marked down to $3.

Anyway, +1 for Kilz oil primer, that stuff is magic. I used it to wave a magic wand in the den last summer. Awesome stuff.

Somewhat nervous about the email I got from Spectrum (Charter now that they own TWC) saying they were going to flash modems to improve speeds. I've been using a 3rd party Arris that's been a champ and I have visions of it bricking.

Downloading the expacs for the Witcher it's pulling 8.9MBps vs the 7.4MBps I was capping a couple days ago (yes I live in the middle of nowhere).

And yet still waiting for another shoe to drop because cable providers.

Went to Vegas and played poker. I'm seriously out of practice plus I've never been really comfortable with NL cash games. Got my teeth kicked in and driven off the table in 2 hours as the obvious fish. I need to travel up and have Way show me whats what.

I don't play much NL these days (other than the occasional tourney), but I understand the basics. My new passion is Omaha-8. SO many awful players...I can just nut peddle and break even when I am card dead, or make shitloads of money when I catch cards. It is a hell of a lot less boring than Hold 'Em too.
You should definitely drag the family up for a few days...lots of stuff to do and see (especially in the summer), and we can drink and play cards in the evenings awesome, for real

Let's just. It lost features iPhones don't have and Androids do and instead applaud them for finally implementing the two that were badly needed.  In another 3 years they may have wireless charging, dual sims or custom skins. I won't hold my breath on external memory, or third party browser default.

The AR platform they're releasing should make for a ton of killer Pokémon GO knockoffs though.
