Which god do I have to pray to in order to make my required Java version work with my SAN management software? awesome, for real Besides groveling in front of the Alter of Install-A-VM.

This shit should not be this hard.

I'd say "Welcome to IBM" except that would be weird.  Although I suppose I don't have the depth of experience with other vendors to say if they are also locked in to some specific JDK version which hopefully you archived the installation file of.  I'm thinking of the V7000 storage array which I sort of remember required specifically 1.7.0.11 or else you would have a bad day.

Oh god that line made my day.

Also, the even remotely current version of the Storwize/SVC code pretty much doesn't seem to care about Java version in my experience, thankfully. Unlike anything Brocade.

Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Luckily my teamlead has an ancient VM that has been left at a magical version of Java 7, which works with the current FOS version on our Brocade.  I could wish for more Cisco, but it's not like their software is any easier to get running in my experience.

This will all fall apart once the new guy decides to update the switches.

Hah, Java 7?

I have a VM called "OLDJAVA" that has an older version of Firefox ESR (with updates disabled) and Java 6 installed on it that I built solely so I can connect to the FC switches in my BladeCenter H.

It is turned off when not in use.

According to the guys at the Cisco booth I talked to last week, you can actually manage zoning on Cisco FC switches through the console without wanting to strangle kittens, unlike Brocade where the command line is so terrible that it makes the IBM BNT switches seem elegant.

Rhode Island is the kind of place you totally forget exists.  You'll see some reference to it somewhere (like here) and say to yourself "Oh right!  I totally forgot Rhode Island was a thing!"  I wonder if I have ever even met a person who has been there before.  Might as well be Narnia.

Had a roommate from Newport, RI. Amazing place primarily because it is forgotten about. Only thing I could possibly say about that is, buy a parka. February there is no joke.

Yeah, I used to have everyone grouped and flagged myself. Then Facebook redid how that works and fucked everything so I forget who most are.

Actually, I'd be fine with seeing Gary shill his books if it means there's another Bridge Chronicle book out.

I'm horrible at remembering to check that in the bookstores and following someone's actual website is haaaaaaaard!   Ohhhhh, I see.

I come home from an early appointment this morning to find my wife playing a channel on Spotify called "The Happy Hipster" and my four year old is dancing all over the place. I don't know how I feel about this.

Be happy your kid enjoys music and will dance like nobody's watching?

Dance along with her and teach her a love of movement, enjoyment, and just having fun?

Otherwise, I got nothing.

I update my Fb all the damn time. I also have a lot of F13ers on my friends list and I'll be damned if I can remember who is who outside of a few obvious ones.
