A new source of travel disorientation: the Internet sees that I'm in the UK and video ads are now in British.
Also, Archer season 4 just dropped on Netflix and I really want to catch up while in my zombified jetlag state but Netflix won't let me. :(
Try dealing with Polish Google/Ads/spotify radio ad's/internet/ect for a year.

I expect by my next visit this will be fixed such that Netflix will let me in once a biometric scan confirms my citizenship.
You need to go to the British site Nuetfluix instead.

Today I am wondering why it is that my internal email with a well-known security company contains more spam than any of my other corp email accounts.

Sorry, Rhyssa. It went around this house in December. I got it twice after everyone was all better. Nothing worse than having the flu (or whatever it was) in a house full of healthy people. Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks, Signe. I'm feeling better today and back at work, but it was the husband's turn at about 12:30 am. So I didn't get much sleep last night. Im just hoping he doesn't give it back to me now. :(

Let's hear it for Microsoft fixing their LTE problem with Office 365 and Verizon in less than two days. Whoo!
Oh, you didn't notice? Your users must all be using wi-fi on their phones.

Wouldn't push or receive e-mails at all. iOS devices would get a "can't connect to mail server" error that would pop up. Android users got nothing but an eternal spinning wheel. If you connected to Wi-Fi, or (I think) even 4g you were fine.
Anything Verizon LTE, however, and your 365 email wasn't going anywhere and you weren't getting notifications. Started happening Sunday and ran through EOB yesterday. Got fixed overnight sometime.
It was also ONLY Verizon. Had several folks whose phones are on AT&T & T-Mobile give it a shot and they were fine.

Wait, why are you putting that at the feet of MS then ? Doesn't really sound like it's on their side of the fence...

Well, mostly because they were the ones telling us it was their problem and they were fixing it.

Nope, Google Apps. We've had our outages, of course, but not any 2 day ones that I've seen thus far.

Man do I dislike Google Apps. Drive. Whatever it is. The whole shenoodle. I just had to untangle a mess a, erm, hobbyist had made of our sharing and Drive setup. Still not nearly done but I accomplished a lot by saying 'stop making documents in Drive'. At one end of the spectrum of viability testing was replacing our entire file server with a private Drive setup. Their sharing and security options were...less than enticing. Even if you can get past the primitive functionality of Drive itself. And then Groups with Calendars, I only wanted to set up a group for sharing calendar editing so I didn't have to manually add/remove an employee from 5 calendars, just maintain the group. Noope.
It got to the point where Google's crap is a running joke of 'I want to do X' but that's not the Google Way, so fuck you. Hey, can I sort by NO GOOGLE NO SORT Y U NOT USE SEARCH
Configuring a new file server now.

What's your concern with the security side of things? Do you have sharing outside the organization turned on? If so... turn that shit off.

I'm imagining how my users would use Google Apps. I guess they'd download a document from drive, attach it to a gmail, then the recipient would download it from gmail and upload it to drive.
I've been here fourteen years and I still can't get people to accept the concept of a shared drive.

No, just a few web published things. That's almost all that's left on there now. I forget the details already (this was about six months ago). I've wiped it all out of the memory core.
I remember it mostly being an organizational mess. A lot might be because I wasn't able to set everything up because the 'hobbyist' went rogue years ago and set it all up half-assed. I'm constantly cleaning up after his bullshit...and the guy is the 2nd highest paid employee behind the boss. So there's an extra layer of anger when dealing with this nonsense. Especially when it doesn't pass our muster of 'is it better than what we have now?'

Google Docs are a pretty serviceable way for me in one of my current classes to have students share some documents that I want them all to be editing together. I'm not sure what else would be as relatively painless to set up and require me to do very little by way of explanation to the students.

The homebrew stuff? Not much. OSX server is $30. Either way, we'd still need Office so no money savings there. Drive is fine if you don't mind chaotic 'file structure', don't need much in the way of tools. The sharing stuff makes our executives craaazy. Is it shared here? Is it shared there? Who shared it? Who owns it? On the file server, I maintain an ACL and can just ssh in to fix any permissions/sharing issues. Me likey fast, easy and uncomplicated. It's great for collaborative and web-facing stuff (love publish to web to reduce redundant documents and remove steps..meaning I don't have to make a pdf of word docs and upload/link it anymore). But that's a pretty small niche of usage here.

No, we got apps for business for free. I guess they transitioned us to the nonprofit version? No idea, before I was on the project. Hell if I can tell from their wonky interface.

Every time I have to deal with companies providing tools and services for embedded development I get fucking angry and become filled with a burning hatred and rage for pretty much everyone of those companies.
I'm now dealing with a company that won't even let me see fucking marketing material, FAQs or download a trial without registering an account. The requirement for registering an account seems to be 'an existing service contract or partner agreement', so in order to basically get any info or any trial to evaluate their product I'd need to sign a partner agreement (whatever that means) which means handing that process over to legal.
Unfortunately this is neither unusual nor the worst way those companies try to fuck with potential customers. As far as I'm concerned most of those companies and their business models can and should die in a fire.

How the hell do both of my old iphones suddenly go missing? Goddamnit. This is annoying for a couple reasons. I can still sell/trade them as they have decent value. Also, the security key for my SWTOR account is on one. I think my wife threw them away "cleaning" but is too embarrassed to tell me.

Ooh, that sucks. Getting a mobile authenticator removed from a SWTOR account is a tremendous pain in the ass last I heard.

Are you a hoarder?
I have a lot of useless computer parts sitting on shelves, but I'm not exactly tripping over them. Some day I may need that Dell power supply from 2003. I'd actually like to recycle a lot of this; just chucking it in a dumpster seems awfully irresponsible.

It's so much harder than you think tho - sometimes it's best to just skip the lot and let the guys at the dump do the recycling.

Put it on the street curb with a "free" sign and the scrappers will take ALL of it. They get their scrap metal money and you don't feel bad for putting it in the dumpster. I did this when I moved last to get rid of 4 computers and 4 boxes of various ancient parts, it was all gone within an hour of being put out.

Rednecks will pick up anything else too. Not just computer parts. Soiled chair? You bet. End table with two legs? Absolutely. Spool for electical cord? That's a table now.
