How to know you're getting older:

friends and colleagues that you've known for a lot of your life start dying.  sad

I have so far had a very close friend die of esophageal cancer and another that has an odd form of lung cancer that is probably going to die in the next 6 months.  The car wrecks you can expect to an extent, but to me the health related problems are really troubling.

As for the facebook stuff, I didn't say they were bad changes.  I'm just old and when I get used to the way things work and they change it then I get irritated, particularly when things were working fine before.

Wait, hang on, was the Daily Show item about Planet Fitness serious ?

I think so:

It's really quite ridiculous.

Can any of you computer people explain why Facebook needs to change their look every month?  They go from one fully functional setup to another irritatingly different until you get used to it fully functional setup.

Loads more ads that way.

Best go right away to see if they have fixed anything.

Because they know G+ is poised to kick the shit out of them and they are trying to seem relevant.

I'm watching Mississippi Burning again and, once again, I get caught up in how fucking depressing it is.

Also, 1988 ?  Really ?

Fuck.  I'm old.

1988 was indeed a pretty good year.

I was 7, so I don't remember much of anything.

We liked Umbro shorts and wore tube socks with colored stripes that matched our shirts.

I had a similar moment watching TV last night.  Black Crowe's "Hard to Handle" was a central part of the plot of a story.  The character in question is 23 now but was really damn young at the time.  For a moment I was thinking "well that's bullshit, that song isn't that old it only came out in... " then I stopped, realized it was 1992/93 when it was popular and died a little inside.

I played soccer so I had a ton of Umbro stuff.  I didn't like that particular pair though.  The solid color ones with the white piping.

Umbro shorts were awesome for hiking and climbing.  Free leg movement, thin material that dried from rain/water very quickly, and tough enough that they didn't get ripped to shreds by branches if you went off trail.

Those colors are just terrible, though.  They made plenty of solid and not-retarded color shorts....
