See. This is a reason to get a Wii. Shamelessly stolen from another forum I frequent: Biohazard Wii indepth Extensive information on the gameplay and content of RE:Wii has surfaced.
-The game consists of 4 "chapters", RE1's mansion, RE2's RPD, RE3's city areas and RE4's village (plus surrounding areas). -Each chapter has 2 characters to choose from. RE1 has Jill and Chris, RE2 has Leon and Claire, RE3 has Jill and Carlos and RE4 has Leon and Ada. -There are several characters that can be unlocked by playing through the game: Rebecca Chambers, Hunk and Albert Wesker. -The gameplay of all chapters is designed around RE4's. Press the B trigger on the wiimote to go into over-the-shoulder view, aim with the pointer and press A to fire. -The game will have QTEs, but rather than push buttons you have to make motions with the wiimote in order to get through them. -All characters will have mêlée attacks, just like RE4. -To encourage replayablility, each character has strengths and weaknesses, similar to how in RE4:Mercenaries Ada had the least health, Krauser was the slowest, etc. -Just like in RE4:Mercenaries each character has a unique set of weapons. What's more players can only carry 2 weapons at any one time. Chris gets a pistol and shotgun whilst Jill gets a pistol and grenade launcher. -You will be able to find several new weapons during each stage. For example, RE1 will have Richard's shotgun, RE2 will have the Desert Eagle, RE4 will have the Chicago Typewriter. There will also be new weapons like Krauser's anti-personnel robots. -Similar to Devil May Cry 3, after each chapter you can save your data and any new weapons picked up will be available for use in Arcade Mode. -Arcade Mode is like a giant Mercenaries minigame. No puzzles or story, just pick a character and a stage and blast through it. Building on the resounding success of Mercenaries seen when RE4 was released. -Scenario Mode will feature a large number of ingame cutscenes. -New content not in the games that the chapters were based on will be added. The primary goal of this will be to link RE4 and Umbrella's status in it more closely with the rest of the series. -Ammo conservation will play a part in the gameplay, so it's not just constant action like RE4. -Trailer coming at TGS. Yes prease.

Actually, here's a creepy 3 sentence story. The other night about 5 of us from work here were arguing about the ending of RE1 and how the Umbrella Corporation didn't get dissolved (this was on monday, an important fact). My argument was that 1. It's a game and 2. It's the coolest name for a company ever. And if they came out with a game called Umbrella Chronicles, people would nut and instantly recognize what it was. Sure enough, two days later, they announced REWii as Umbrella Chronicles. People are, indeed, nutting and recognizing. Pretty fucked up, doods.

(this was on monday, an important fact) You were right...had it been on a Tuesday, your little anecdote would have been far less powerful and inspiring.

RE 4 style action with the Wiimote as an aiming device? Fuck, that could very well be the definition of gaming nirvana, with less Kobain.

I read that to, and so far am maintaining my restrained optimism. I think it was B button to go over-the-shoulder as in RE4, then Wiimote aim... jizz. As long as it doesn't take five bullets to kill a zombie and I only have two... well, even then.
I ma having a hard time reading Wii sites right now. I'm going to have to take a break for a week or three, especially since I know the dates.

This part I don't like. Fuck ammo conservation. When zombies take over for real I'll worry about ammo, until then let me just blast the fuckers in a game and have fun. The rest almost sounds too good to be true.

No no no. When the zombies DO come, you'll want to rely on your deadshot aim and bullet conservation habits to stay alive longest. That way you'll have the whole "well, Im the last man on earth so we might as well start repopulating" line on all the hotties the zombies seem to leave alone. On a more serious note, never having enough ammo was one of the best things about System Shock2. Really rachets the tension. Xilren

If I want tension I'll stop taking my hi blood pressure meds. See, this line of thinking reminds me of the EQphiles who insist that if you don't have to spend hundreds of hours of your time walking back to your corpse that the game just isn't challenging enough.

Im sorry, I though you were actually interested in a horror survival game. Such games are usually all about tension. My bad. "Deer Hunter plus Zombies" shooting range for you then.

I'm with Xilren on this one. I love the beginning of RE2 where you have to try to run around a shitload of zombies on the way to the police station. If you've got a shitload of ammunition, a zombie ends up just being a really slow moving target and what the fuck is the point of that?

-All characters will have mêlée attacks, just like RE4. Hey guys, remember how strong Leons roundhouse was? Ok. Ammo is not a problem.

Yeah the first time I played that with my friends we kept dying over and over for like 20 minutes, because we would switch turns and each person would immediately forget the controls when their turn started and run right into the arms of a zombie. Good times.

Resident Evil is not about the shooting. It's about the atmosphere. And typewriter ribbons.

With the RE4 control scheme it might not be so bad. BTW, atmosphere can be attained without having three bullets and a typewriter ribbon to get you past a boss fight. Tension != to horror.

I want the zombies to COME BACK like in RE1. The first time a Crimsonhead got back up off the floor and swiped me to death I nearly had a small accident in my pants. I don't see how anyone could beat RE1 in the three hour unlock time in Hard Mode, I never had enough gas to clear the most optimal routes permanently :-(
