The Samuel Adams Octoberfest is even better this year than last year. It has a slightly stronger and more balanced roast which makes for a better top note. Still a caramel malt taste with light hops, a better balance of spices and cereals, and full bodied and refreshing to drink.

I have no idea what you just said (I'm a stinkin' wino, not a big beer guy really), but I love this stuff. :)

Saw it advertised but I had already decided I was dehydrated enough.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll get this next time I go out.

Octoberfest is out already?  They only just put some Cherry Wheat out at the local Kroger and still have some Summer Ale.

Mmmm  Sam Adams.

= Good Beer

I find tasting notes of anything (wine, cigars, coffee, ...) quite amusing, as it usually comes down to bad, mediocre, or good.

No, I'm in agreement with Leary on the cranberry stuff they produce around the holidays. That shit's vile and I'm a guy who likes cranberries.

Tried Blue Moon's Pumpkin Ale this weekend. That shit was rancid. Then again I've never found a pumpkin ale that I did like.

I also tried the Commodore Perry from Great Lakes:
http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/beerProfile.php?beer_id=00000018

Very tasty beer but was difficult to drink more than a few as it was fairly strong. I'm usually not a fan of IPA's but this one was tasty and didn't seem overly bitter.

Based on your recommendation I bought a 6 pack last night. I'll be buying an orange tonight as I think a wedge would compliment the flavor.

My analysis: Drinkable.

I'll check out the Sam's October. Sounds interesting. I also have to check out Saranac's October.

While in Vermont last week I stopped by the Long Trail Brewery, their brewmaster chose my favorite (Hefeweizen) as their summer special limited series. Saranac only sells it in the summer pack (though I should stop over to their brewery to check), so I grabbed a case and also two nice 18oz Hef glasses.

I also tried to get a job there, they have an inhouse tech guy and my girlfriend went to high school with their manager :)

My tastes run against having Shit in my beer.  This means almost anything that makes it not taste like beer.  There are few exceptions, such as a little lemon in hefeweizen, but even that is completely optional and it's souring a sweet brew rather than turning my booze into candy.  I steer away from beer containing fruit, in general.  I like apples, for example, but I don't want apple in my beer.

Had a Sam Adam's Octoberfest over the weekend. Very good beer. Since we were men trapped at a baby shower* (and thus bored out of our gourds), my buddies and I experimented with adding fruit to it to try to complement some of the flavors. Orange seems like it would work the best, but oranges are too mildly flavored- they get lost in the beer.

If your wife hears you saying that, I'd say odds are good she won't get pregnant.

I think it is a perfectly reasonable request to be made.  However, if you actually buy the gallons of baby oil and start constructing the multi-headed showering system that would pump said oil, then you have a recipe for disaster.

It might make a fun home project though.

The only holiday beer I've ever tolerated was Anchor Steam's. It has little hints of juniper and coriander without tasting like a Christmas tree.

The only Oktoberfest beer I need is some Spaten Optimator. Keep it simple, bitches.

Octoberfest is a September festival in Munich to celibrate some obscure wedding from way back.

I wish they had the Cherry Wheat in the stores around here, its my favorite flavor.  If they wait too much longer I may have to take a trip to Michigan and get the really good local stuff.

I'll try pineapple tonight I think.  For me the best part was knowing that WAP was Tivo'ing the college football games and being a jackass.

I live in Cincinnati.  Believe me, I know what Octoberfest is (and the *sigh* world's largest chicken dance.)  I just didn't realize the brew was out already.. putting the celebration this past weekend together with the brew just didn't click over until the post about it.

Although I may be on your bad side allready, I'll risk saying that if my GF and I get married our first dance will likely be the chicken dance.

Yes we are (insert correctly spelled pejorative of your choice), but compatable (insert correctly spelled pejorative of your choice)...thats what matters.

Heh.

I have devised a plan for this weekend (going to the Seahawks game). I will purchase and consume a variety of Octoberfest brews before and during the game, and perhaps discuss their merits in this thread next week. If I survive.
