**Major spoilers in this post* *
Ok, so I finished the story missions in Saints Row. It has a very odd ending. I dont know if anyone here except Schild has it, and he said he didnt like to story mode much. So, after you beat the other 3 gangs, the credits roll, but then you get to keep playing and there are more missions to do with your own gang. The last mission called "To Salt the Earth" is just a cut screen, with you talking to a crooked politician on his boat, and half way through the conversation some one blows up the boat. During the convertsation there are flashes to all the other main characters, and then BOOM. Boat explodes, and then the credits roll, again.
This has a small portion of the internet rumor mill running hot. What happened. Was something left out of the game to make the ending cutscreen make sence? Where people supposed to be left in the dark as to what happened for a sequal, or as one postert theorized, possibly for downloadable content since the games main menu has an option for "downloadable content". Or was it just a crappy ending? Another odd thing, after the credits, you dont get to keep playing to finish all the activities and stuff. I think one person posted that he got 100% of the game finished, and the ending was still the same.
Its very odd. If any one here has finished I would be interested to hear what you think. I am personally leaning to ether, HORRIBLE ending cause they ran out of time or money, or they are going to release more story missons via download.

Sounds like the FreeSpace 2 ending reincarnated. At the end of FS2, the Shivan fleets all gathered around Capella and caused it to go nova. Why? No fucking clue. It was supposed to be explained in the next game (which never came). The most popular theory was that they were trying to create some kind of dimensional rupture to get back to wherever they came form.
So the Volition writers have an established track record of ambiguous endings...

Yeah the ending was a strange one that's for sure; it definitely wasn't something that I was expecting to see. I assumed that it was just a way for the developers to leave it open for a sequel. Surely they wouldn't have left out any content or cutscenes on accident but I thought it was interesting (and shocking) to see Troy handling a police badge in the final cutscene. I took that to mean that he was an undercover cop who had infiltrated the Saint's but there was never any indication during the game that would lead one to suspect him as an undercover. And what kind of undercover cop would come along on drive-bys and be a part of such wanton criminal activity? Whatever the case may be, I still had a great time playing the game. Rockstar would be wise to take note of the improvements that Volition made to the GTA formula. I clocked in ~35 hours completing the main story along with all of the activities - still need to do all of the tagging and find the hidden CDs, though. Multiplayer is a different story. What's up with all the lag? Hopefully a patch is in the works.

Im working on all the activities now. I have finished Havok, Insurance Fraud and almost Snatch. I havent even started the street racing ones. I also only just figured out you can add nitrus to your car. If you read the manul, it is written by Troy. There are a few little hints that it is him and he explains why he does all this stuff. (To make an omlet, break a few eggs)
My opinion is that Volition took the first part of GTA:SA and made it better and much expanded it. But if you compair the rest of GTA:SA, Saints Row could have added a lot more fun little things. Like no motorcycles, come on, also no boats or planes. But overall I agree they took the GTA style and made some very good additions.
Your right about multiplayer, the lag is fucking horrible. Also it takes forever to join a game. I havent tried the coop games yet, but Im thinking lag could make those suck also.
Overall defenetly worth $60.
Liquid, add me to your Friends list if you want to play online some time, XBL Tag is "rup3t".

Watched as my friend beat this game last night. He pretty much had a WTF face going on wondering why that happened. I told him it was cause he was white and much fun was had by all. We figured that maybe its a different ending at 100% but who knows. Definately looks setup for a sequel as it is.

Offhand, I'm going to say that meaning of the that mission is clear: play with fire often enough, and you're meat. An unusually realistic streak to the GTA-enspired genre.
