the plural of mangina

on: September 07, 2006, 10:04:54 AM

My brother has a Dell that was middle of the road when CoH came out. I was going to get him Titan Quest but there is no way his machine can handle that.

He is a very casual gamer. No RTS or FPS. He liked BG, Diablo, NWN. He would like to be able to play co-op with a friend.  I am ashamed I cannot think of anything but then again I haven't bought mane single players games since the last Railroad Tycoon iteration.

Does Dungeon Siege 2 offer multi-player?

I have never played WoW.

For co-op, Diablo2 and the xpac are really the best bets for fun casual-gaming sessions, assuming he hasn't played it to death.
Divine Divinity doesn't have co-op, but he may like it.
Master of Orion 2.
Deus Ex.
Dungeon Siege offers multiplayer, not sure if his computer could handle DS2 "comfortably", though, based on your description.

WoW would probably run on his machine.

He says he wouldn't like WoW. I don't know how he can know that since the only MMOG he has tried since Uo back in 1999 has been CoH.

Anyway, I found DS2 on ebay for under $10. If it doesn't work on his PC, then so what at that price.

I have never played WoW.

Just put WoW on it, and tell him it is Warcraft, and when he says "Its WoW?" you say "no, not that warcraft" and by that time it will be to late.

GalCiv?  Stardock also sells a lot of indie shit through their service that might be worth checking.  I like Stardock.

I'm having some trouble with these parameters as well.  The co-op constraint is the real sticky part, or I might suggest games like Grim Fandango and Gothic and Morrowind.  Deus Ex is great, but FPSy, as are both System Shocks (good luck running the first one on XP).  Dungeon Keeper.  Fallout.  Hell, WoW is co-op.

He might meet the requirements for Civ 4.  I'm not sure how 'casual friendly' that is, but I know its a game you can play never opening the manual.

Speaking of old games, I realized that my Fallout 1 and 2 CDs are gone... any idea where I can re-get them?

Fool, you're supposed to do a Full Install and lock those babies away as keepsakes.

Yeah Guild Wars is a good suggestion -- it runs well on a GeForce 4 MX-class GPU.

Dwarf Fortress.

I would have suggested this except that I learned about it from HRose, and I don't want to look like a joiner.

Quite a few places here in Sweden sell a Fallout pack with Fallout 1&2+Tactics. It should be pretty easy to find online aswell.

Wiiiiii!
