Ok, so lets see, on Feburary 18th I am very fortunate to be marrying a wonderful lady.

The Honeymoon is planned for 3 nights in New York, no worries there we have been before and will be staying in the Plaza in Central Park.

Following that we will be traveling to San Francisco for 4 nights, staying at Raddisson Fishermans Wharf (Not so sure about this as although I have been to SF before it was only for a few days and almost 10 years ago).

So anyway we are planning to go to Hawaii for 7 nights and wondered if anyone had any tips or advice for which is the best island for a honeymoon?  Failing that any experiences, advice on Hawaii etc would be most welcome.

Are you looking for an activities and nightlife honeymoon, or a lay on the beach and relax honeymoon? Nightlife is definitely Oahu (Waikiki area, to be specific), and you can do the 'tourist-y' things like Pearl Harbor, Haunama Bay (definitely worth seeing), North Shore, etc.

For more relaxed surroundings, someplace like Maui or Kauai may be more to your liking.

You might even try to hit a couple of islands if you are staying for a week- you can do a whirlwind tour of Oahu in 2-3 days, then retire to another island for R&R.

My sister got married on Kaua'i (smallest island) last month.  Since that is the only island I've been to my experience is limited.

The place is absolutely spectatular.  It's 80 degrees every day and there's always a nice breeze.  You should just skip the first two spots and go there.

More useful information: If you're going for a straight week (Sun-Sat) I'd check out timeshares.  www.tug2.net is a place to look for week long rentals.  Otherwise, there is a bed and breakfast near Kapa'a with a nice view of a waterfall.  The place is $85 a night (more if you want the room with the view).  The winter is a good time for surfing if you want to do that.

I can't tell you much of anything about the other islands, but I have heard that the island of Hawai'i itself is a bit on the built up side.

One thing, Kaua'i does not have an active volcano.  You'll have to hit the big island for the lava.

If I were spending a week in Hawaii I would be looking seriously at getting in some deep sea sport fishing.  I've known girls who enjoyed fishing (or at least boating) and I've known girls who wouldn't know which end of a fishing rod to hold.  I guess it all would depend on which kind of girl your girl is.

A day at sea can be quite enjoyable though.

Ok thanks for the replies, looks like Kaua'i is probably going to be our choice, that was the island we liked the look of most from the details we have.  Intend to do the whole tourist bit in SF and NY, flight times are terrible so will be good to relax for a week before the trip back.

Fishing not for me, did enough of that in UO :P

Hey!  Congrats!  Marriage is wonderful... just ask my husband.  I'm SURE he'll tell you how much better his world is now that he has someone to 'help' him make the proper decisions in life.  ;p  Hope you have a great time!

Congratulations on the marriage... Does she have a sister/clone? :p

I'd suggest anything off the tourist path as in the summer things get really crazy there... Of course if your going into another area the locals get a bit hostile. Best of luck in your future together!!

Congratulations! I've only been to the virgin islands, never to Hawaii.

How the hell did this pop up?

It got necroed by some tourism spambot pushing holidays to Hawaii. The post got deleted though. How it came to be moved from Serious Business to Gen Disc, then stickied and locked is somewhat more of a mystery.

I'm sure whichever mod nipped the spambot's post could tell you more.

I locked it cause you fuckers always reply to spambots which 1) means more crap for me to delete and 2) it "hides" the spam cause I no longer can see a person I don't recognize responding to some ancient post in the Unread display.

I was really close to responding to the spambot, but I kept myself from doing it.

Then when I came back like an hour later, it was in the stickies and I REALLY wanted to make a new thread asking why it was stickied.

But I behaved myself.

Sauces and I find it incredibly meta that we're reading this while in Hawaii. We're in Kona, swimming with endangered sea turtles and listening to terrible lounge acts while dining by the ocean.

Snorkling w/ the turtles is awesome.

I went to Maui a few months back and stayed on the West coast.  If you can spare a day to rent a convertible and drive The Road to Hana (start at 8am and continue till 6-7pm), it's totally worth the trip.  Simply stunning vistas and an incredibly fun drive.  Waterfall hikes, bamboo forests, black rock cove.  Stunning.

Then I'd say the honeymoon was a success!

Don't tiger sharks eat turtles? I am not sure I would even go wading with them. I have seen too many Shark Week specials.
