What are the general strategies for running escort duty for unarmed ships? I'm thinking ewar mods for keeping the enemy locked down. Or fitted out for total gank to bring down the enemy quickly? Maybe maintenance drones or remote armor/shield reps to keep the unarmed ship alive. Rocket launchers with defender missiles? Sensor boosters to get all this stuff going ASAP? Scouts to look for traps ahead, although you can't scout for log on traps. Anything else? I'm trying to decide whether to attempt to cram all of that onto one ship or to put a good tank on. If I need a good tank, then what's the most important? And which kind of ewar to use? Sensor dampeners sound like a good idea, but the enemy is probably already targeting the unarmed ship. Unless dampeners affect locks already in progress? Maybe I want defenders to take down missiles and tracking disrupters for turrets, although then they could warp scramble still.

I'd say pick one of the roles and do it.  Try to do too much and you wind up gimpy due to game mechanics.

I'd say most useful is scout, next most would probably be jamming.  Unless you're in a HAC/ BS I don't think you're going to have enough Gank power to level someone before they take out your escort, hauling ships are made from tissue and gum.  Even the remote reps wouldn't save them from a 2-3 member gang of snipers. Any more than that and the escort would be popped before you'd killed one member of the other side.

Don't wory about tracking disruptors and what not. Go for the multi-spec target jammers. If they can't lock they can't scram, fire turrets. Their offense becomes limited to FoF missiles, drones and Smartbombs.

I'd just advise a shuttle warping ahead of the main party. Unless they are cloaked at a gate, in which case you are dead no matter what.
