A) The Seahawks are looking pretty damned good (kiss of death)
B) The Mariners suck unholy ass, and I need a local sports fix

Looking for a head count of folks who are interested in a league this year. I would LIKE to do a live draft, which shouldn't take as long as Haemish's baseball league (and even that was tolerable). Yahoo supported live drafts last year (and they are free!), so it is likely I will use them again.

Watch the film.  We had TWO guys in the proximity of that pass.  It was not the play calling at fault.  It was poor timing on the guy who came across (from the top of the screen using the standard angle) and horrible positioning and adjustment by the guy standing casually behind the receiver so that he could tackle him past the first down marker.  Fuck, I can't even remember their names now.  I forget everything in the offseason or else I spend the whole time pining away waiting for football.  But I had that play downloaded and watched it about 20 times.  The defensive playcall can only put people near the ball.  The players have to make something happen.  Coach can't do that.

That play was SO not Sherman's fault.  Other things in that game I could give you.  But not that play.

That said, the packers have some SERIOUS problems this year.  McKenzie is not going to play.  He is going to sit out the season to get out of his contract before he will step on the field.  He is just pissed off at life.  The little whiny bitch.  So our secondary needs some big help from players with little to no NFL experience.  And this is a secondary that got us burned in WAY too many games already last year.  That new defensive coordinator will have to be a miracle worker.  I have always blamed our defensive back coach though, whoever that is.  Our guys seem trained to just follow the receiver around the field and they never actually pay attention to where the ball is.

We have FOUR receivers.  Walker, Fergusen, Driver.... and... FORD???  Who the fuck is ford?  He has never really played, never looked any good when he has played, and on top of that he has an injury going into this season.  Oh, great.  We have nobody else.  We go four wideouts (which we do a lot) and we have ford on the field.  If ANYONE gets hurt we have him on three wideout sets.  That is real bad news.  Sure we have done silly things last year like lining HENDERSON out wide, lining Green out wide, and using our tight end sets more often, but still things look ugly for receivers.  And nothing gets Favre more annoyed than having receivers that can't make plays by either never getting open or dropping the fucking ball.  Once Favre gets annoyed the game is over.  He will play like shit till next week.  By playing like shit I mean Favre's classic taking the game into his own hands mentality by throwing passes he should not into triple coverage and throwing to receivers like he is trying to impale them on a spit.

I blame everything on Mike Sherman.

He loves offense; he's like Spurrier except he actually knows how to make offensive plays work. But he gets a 2 TD lead and has the offense sit on their fucking hands. The defense is NEVER good enough to hold leads, because he doesn't pick defensive talent for shit. He's lucked into KGB and a few linebackers. DB's are total shit. McKenzie is the only decent one, and he gets burned too much. He can sit his whiny pussy ass out all season for all I care, it won't make much difference. Without Leroy Butler in that secondary, it flounders, and the front 4 hasn't been good enough to cover up the secondary's weaknesses.

I still think 4th and 36, after having pressured the shit out of the QB for 3 straight downs, there was no reason to rush only 3 guys and put the rest of those retards into coverage. Practically handed them the TD, just like he handed them the ball over and over again the 3rd quarter by running shitty run plays straight up the gut over and over.

Butler is a coaching assistant now for the team.  Something that I like.  I always thought he would make a good coach, as his onfield presence always seemed to heighten the play of others around him.  I want him to be our secondary coach period.

Ok- I set up the league. Check out the scoring settings and such and let me know if you have any major objections. The major changes I made were
 to grant 1 point per reception (to help balance between RBs and WRs....most leagues are so slanted to RBs that if you don't get 2 studs, you are buggered)

tinkered with the defensive scoring (increased the scoring both postive and negative)

tripled the scoring for a safety (they are worth more in terms of momentum and field position than the 2 points that go on the scoreboard)

added some negative points for missing short field goals

I also set up a live draft for 8PM PDT on Friday August 27th (the only times available on the weekends were like 6 AM, and fuck that). If we can't get almost everyone on board for a live draft, we can always switch it to auto (I REALLY prefer live if possible). Let me know if this date is a deal-breaker, and I can look into alternates.

One problem with the reception thing: Tomlinson will score like 40 points a game.

Very possibly. On a whole, however, I think it evens the field a bit more, especially for the folks stuck picking in spots 8-11 or so. With 'regular' scoring, the common wisdom is to take running backs with your first 2 picks, unless you can get a PREMIUM WR or QB. With WRs getting a boost, alternate draft strategies become viable, instead of the same old thing..."Should I draft Eddie George, even though he is older than dirt and barely bipedal from all his injuries? He IS a starting tailback...".

I don't think Yahoo supports keeper leagues- anyone know for sure? That would be one way for me to end the career of any player I choose; just designate him as my keeper and watch the carnage.

I've been checking around with the leagues I'm running and I can't see an option for a keeper league. I would think the only way to do it is have one person record who's keeping who and then run an offline draft in IRC next year.

The funny thing is that last year I was in a league that did a live draft except 2 people who went with Yahoo's default.

Either all of us were idiots, or Yahoo was lucky, but they smoked EVERYONE.

That made as all very sad.
