Just watched this movie this morning. Its centered around the game development community, and was produced by Adam Sandler. Has anyone else seen this? I thought it was hilarious.

It's pretty good. The lead chick is hot. Some of the lines are pretty fun. The best stuff was the pot jokes though. The gaming stuff was weak.

Whew! I was worried there for a bit that I was the only one who had seen it.

How funny though were the charicatures of lead designer and the CEO? The subtle references to the likes of John Romero (character- JP) and Richard Garriott (Mr. Cheesell) were pretty funny I thought.

Pretty much, considering it opened in over 2000 cinemas and failed to break $3 million gross, it probably even wiped the smug grin of Sandler's face for a short while.

Ouch, that's pretty bad.  Not worth the rental I take it?

Actually I didnt even know it had been released in theaters. I thought it went straight to video.

Worth the rental? I'd say given the fact we are all gamers, and both Schild and I found it amusing....its worth a Sunday evening rental fee.

Ya know, as a gamer it is worth the rental. As a comedy, well, it's funnier than Club Dread.

Dumped off into the post-holiday dead zone with zero publicity, like a baby left on a doorstep.  I suspect the studio considered it a turd, but was obligated to release it on X screens.

I saw this movie.  It was easily the worst movie I've ever seen in my entire life.  It's revolting to me that any of you found it funny.  I was drunk and didn't laugh once.

I agree Supertroopers was funny.  I'm not adverse to weed humor, but I do think Sandler is out of touch with what's funny after Grandma's Boy (and Click).  That Spanish movie he did was good though.

You liked Spanglish? Your concept of good versus bad is obviously broken beyond all repair.

Spanglish was a cheap-shot one-dimensional feel-good chick-flick. The characters aren't just paper-thin, they're unbelievable. Sandler plays a successful chef that couldn't command a rowboat let alone a kitchen. Leoni plays a self-obsessed bitch who even a spineless moron wouldn't marry. Vega plays an angelic maid who never does any work and wears expensive outfits. Every interaction between the characters seems contrived and out of place. If these "characters" were used by Brookes as a vehicle for jokes in a TV sitcom they would at least be forgivable, if far from his best efforts. In Spanglish, a film almost entirely devoid of humor, they are horrific.

It's a good movie for Sandler, it's his most critically acclaimed role after Punch Drunk Love.  You know a lot more about it than me though, like maybe you watched it more than once.

Don't get too carried away dude.  This is the thread you started about how hilarious Grandma's Boy is.  But all's fair in love, war, and movie criticism.  Anyway, it's not like Spanglish is my favorite movie or anything, I didn't even remember the name of it until   Righ mentioned how much he loved it.  I just remembered watching it and saying, "hey, this is a huge departure from Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, and it's keeping me mildly entertained."

Plus, half the people on this board are arteests through and through, and I could really give a fuck about something as inherently subjective in any case.  Displeasure noted, but peeps need to cut it with the vitriol over random bullshit.

While we're all here, can someone explain Napoleon Dynamite to me ?

I watched it the other night.  It was like getting my teeth drilled.

Is it supposed to be funny ?  Moving ?  Romantic ?  What ?

Again, not being a dick, I honestly sat through it going 'what ?' and only had one laugh.

While I did think it had some funny moments, like the older brothers comment on picking up chicks online...

For the majority, it was funny to people who either:

a) love to be able to claim that they "got it" while you "didnt get it" in order to feel some sort of superiority.
b) considered themselves outsiders in school, and so connected with the main character.

Napoleon wasn't an outsider! He was the type of kid even the outsiders made fun of! Someone not quite retarded that you can call retarded.

Man, that movie was a piece of shit.

It was Revenge of the Nerds for the passive-aggressive.    I don't get a lot of joy out of watching people who can't connect socially. Perhaps it hits too close to the mark, I dunno.  Either way gave me a few chuckles but not much more.

Of course, I couldn't stand Fight Club to the point of turning it off, and loads of other people love it.  I might just be broken.

It's an awful film. It has some funny lines though. So you're all part right and part wrong. An interesting gaming connection - the cute lass was also the voice of Ursula in Gladius, though I recognised her from ER adverts.

I wish I could. But I had the same reaction. I couldn't finish watching it. It was that fucking bad. The people who try to imitate the movie are funnier than the movie itself.

My wife likes Spanglish, but she's a woman so I can forgive her that. I thought it had one or two interesting lines wrapped around the shittiest shit shit plot I've seen since Monster-in-Law.

I am one of "those people" that thought Napoleon Dynamite was awesome, to the point of considering buying the two-disc unit.  However, I still can't explain it.  I don't think it needs explanation, actually.  Like that terribly out-of-style lamp on your great-aunt's side table, it just exists and you either love it or hate it simply for it's twisted existence.
