Not like that, ya pervs!  shocked

I am talking about trading ISK for Eve Time Cards. I just bought a 100 day card from the EVE store, which should net me 300,000,000 isk when it finally arrives via snail mail (why they don't sell electronic versions I have no earthly idea.

This will be a nice nest egg for my 2 characters- I was having a lot of trouble keeping them in skills and ships and the like. It will also allow me to feel a bit more comfy in the PVP arena, knowing that a defeat won't send me scurrying for Empire mission running (where I am now, and where I am quite lonely). Still, I feel a bit strange about it.

I don't see anything immoral about it. In a game like this where isk is so important to being able to do what you want without some way of doing it legally ISG and the macro miners would be far more common than they are. Better that the cash should go to the company than to those scumbags.

300 million seems a little high though. Last time I checked the buy and sell forum the going rate was about 270.

If you guys wanna donate $10 to the corp, we could buy as many game cards as possible. Then we'd be rich, rich I tell you!

Going rate is 270M for the 90 day codes you get from GameGoody, it's 300M for the 100 day cards from CCP.  BTW, you can get a 90 day code sent to you by email for $45 from http://www.gamegoody.com/eveonline/eveonline.htm, also 30 day codes (which sell for 100M typically).  Some people are obviously financing Motherships/Titans with a few grand of real cash, by the number of codes they are selling.

K, once you get the card, what do you do with it?  How do trade it with other players for ISK?

I don't understand the point of gamecards. It's not like you save money somehow...

Arrgh! I knew I should have asked if there was a quicker way before I did it. Oh well.

You can arrange the sales here.

If you don't have a credit card to use for a a subscription, they are pretty much the only other option. As for why people buy them- if you are making a few billion a month, why not buy some time cards and play for free?

Didn't you have to use a credit card to buy the time card?

I think the idea is that your parents buy them for you or something.

Someone just sold a 30 day timecode for 100mil in 6 minutes on the forum.   wink

I wonder if this is CCPs way of getting back at the gold farmers, and not really there to facilitate a credit card-less subscription.

Straz,
What Ant is doing is fully supported by ccp. If  you can make mucho isk by mining, manufacturing, etc. Why pay for your game time? Buy a time card with isk and play for free. CCP fully supports the transitions, if theres any difficulty they will check out the logs and make all things right. At least here you have a leagal option and are not supporting the Chinese.

I started with nothing, and I still have most of it

It's legal way of buying ingame items with RL dollars. Mainly because it's CCP who gets the money:)

Advantages for timecard buyers:
-all the grindy, teen folks who can afford to play for 8h/day but cannot afford a credit card?
-all the sploiters and griefers who got their CCs banned can have another run at torturing poor players.

You can if you're a Euro, as CCP charge €14.95 for 30 days which is about $20.  However you can buy 30 day timecards online for $14.95.  Of course if you can grind 100 million a month easily you can play for free buying cards from other players.

I just got my very first ingame spam mail from an isk seller. A trial account of course. I've reported it to CCP.

How much do you want to bet that they remove the ability for trial accounts to send mail soon? Or perhaps just limit them to 3 a day or something.

How does the actual exchange go down in something like this?

Billy evemails you 300m ISK, and you evemail him the code so he can add it to his subscription?  Trust issues involved?

oh god how did this get here I am not good with computer

It is set up in advance through the forums. I believe CCP guarantees the transactions for game cards, but I could be wildly mistaken.

There is a Trade channel in game, I sold my 50 days GTC for 140 million there.

Hmmm...never thought about that. I wonder if I could get more for it there? As soon as the asthmatic pigeon with my GTC arrives from Iceland I will find out.

One more MOG line crossed for me, thanks to EVE.  FIrst it was the second account, now it's buying ISK.  Sort of.  I am now trying to unload a 90 day code, finding the market a tad slow for some reason.  I guess if no one bites at 280m, I'll drop down a bit.  Either way, the isk will likely propel my ass into 0.0 at last.

If you can't get your 280 in the trade forum I'll give you 270 for it Yego. Drop me a message in game if my bid holds up.

Yeah, 280 was a stretch to see if I got lucky.  I didn't.  Going rate is still 270, it seems.

Got my card via snail (air) mail on Monday. Scratched it off, logged in to EVE, joined the Trade channel, and had it sold within 5 minutes. Very cool. Now I am trying to train up to inties and then interdictors for some fun PvPing.

You know what's kinda funny?  I'm still mining omber like a demon (gogo barge) even with the new bankroll.  But then, I finally bought a large number of skills that I now have to train up, including the fancy-schmancy level 2 learning skills.  Working on those first, but I also now have every refining skill waiting for some training, and have that R&D thing to get going.
