I added some screenshots to my page, the first of the 3D client.

www.geocities.com/margalisix

The graphics need a lot more polish but for the time being they are pretty decent. I need some better text rendering but I'm putting that off for now. I hope to add back in the card graphics that I had before, where when you move the cursor over a unit you see a graphic of it's stats in the top corner.

It's all playable now again but some of the graphics are missing, for example if you attack someone they take damage but there isn't any visual indication other than their health changing.

The good news is it's gone from 10 FPS to 30+, plus you can rotate the view around to get around nasty occlusion problems.

Right now you can zoom in/out and tilt up/down but the camera rotation is limited to one of four angles, which just makes it a lot simpler.

Lavish me with praise and attention!

FWIW, I like the shallow angle better.  You may want to try less of a height differential, and smooth the polys - that should make it look less blocky and more natural, if it's something you're after.

Nice.  If you need someplace to put your pics, I have some space and bandwidth you can use.

Are you eventually going to move away from card-based avatars?

Probably not. One of the ideas is that there will be a lot of units and it will be easy to add new ones. Actually modelling and animating each new unit would be a lot to ask even for a professional project. Imagine if each Magic card that was created had an animated 3D model for it.

The art on the markers will change but the basic idea will remain.

Excellent work so far. I am very impressed (not that I'm anyone who matters). Please keep us posted as this progresses. Bookmarked!

If you need some image hosting, Photobucket is free and allows remote linking. Not sure what the bandwidth limit is, or if there even is one, but that might alleviate some of the bandwidth traffic from the free Geocities site.

Very, very impressed.

I will light an incense stick for you and try and send some positive energy. (Seriously.  Nice work, keep it up.)

Nice work.

I've done some texture work in my day and if you're interested in terrain/tile textures, I'd be happy to help.

I'm sure I will be at some point. I drew my textures myself in MS Paint! I'm actually not a bad computer artist, back in the day I spent a ton of time coloring things in one pixel at a time in Mac Canvas.

I tried finding textures online but finding ones that would tile and fit the overall color scheme was tough. Most of them were super high-res and realistic, which when put on those little blocks lose all detail and just become blurs.

I would love some nicer textures but I don't want anyone spending time on what is still just a wacky side-project of mine.
