Geez. I still use my Nightsaber from Teladrassil for everything. I've seen little need to swap him out, even back when "zomg you HAVE to tame Bangalash you noob!" was being spewed about daily. I might pick-up a wolf just because they have a nice buff for instances, but it just feels wrong running around without the cat.
I had a flying pet for all of 20 mins. Fucking a they're annoying. My GM has specifically banned them from any instance groups he's in because he can't target shit with the flappity menaces around.

Flying pets are annoying to tanks. When my friend playing the warrior decided he would only use the basic level one stance and that thunderclap was the only aggro power he ever needed to use, I decided I would use whatever pet I wanted. If I'm going to end up being the tank every fight, what do I care about his opinion?

I hate flying pets too but they are way more annoying grouped and in instances than soloing outdoors. When your only alternative is to gain agro on the second or third shot of every fight like I do lately you start putting up with a bit of annoyance bacause meleeing everry mob you try to kill is both annoying as hell and expensive. I even went back to my giantstalker set both to save a bit of money on repairs and because, IMO, it's a far superior set for farming.
I'm sure glad I bought that 100g bank slot rather than vendoring my old gs when I got full ds. :)

If he has the rage for a thunderclap he has the rage for 3 or 4 sunders which would give him a lot better agro than the tclap even in battle stance.

Oh, I remember when people tamed the bats from ZG when it first came out, back before the move and attack speed normalization.. the damn things were so big you litterally could not target anything else.

Yeah, I tried a buzzard for a little while.
Annoyed the hell out of me, and I was soloing.
Quickly dropped the flappy son of a bitch.
I do love my bear though. I've always loved bears as pets. They do desperately need a special skill though.
Blizzard really needs to work at getting us more special abilities for different pets.
And more pet skins. It is so depressing to realize that with some of my pets, people can't tell what level I decided to get it or anything.
We need more uniqueness, at LEAST in appearance.
Quandary: What do I name my bear? After all that work, I want him to be special. Open to suggestions.

Bears I've seen are the standard stuff - Rug, Snug, Blue, and simply named Bear. Also, meatshield and derivations thereof.

Well the "Young Forest Bear" (level 8-9) in Elwynn Forest is reported by TKA Something's website as having a super slow 2.5 attack speed. The slowest pet in the game is commonly thought to be Ursius the big bad white bear, who happens to be a level 56 elite. So, I dunno. Since the pet normalization many folks are looking at slow attack speed pets for bigger crits. (Especially cats coming out of Prowl, ala Jaguero Stalkers.) So maybe the little noobler zone bear is something to think about. I have always resisted taming a bear because they are so blah, but since we are just PvE'ing and having a jolly old time I might give up the white flapper to try one out. I've never, ever actually tamed a bear for a pet.

I'm gonna strip naked and run into alliance territory for a bear. Won't matter anyways, once I need to tame it. [edit] Well, I went to Elwynn and tamed a Young Forest Bear. He gets bigger, right? Also, what's the best way to level him up? I'm 15, he's 8.

Pets actually do get bigger as they level up, it's pretty cool. If only players did too. Pets gain XP for killing stuff that's cons for them, so go kill lvl 8-10 mobs.

Actually that's not quite true. Pets only get experience for mobs that give exp to the hunter. They are also capped at 414 exp per kill. So kill lots of low greens and dont hope for a lot of help from your pet until he gets close to your level.

Pets grow 1% in size each time they level. Or so I read. Either way it is verifiably true that a pet levelled from say 40 to 60 is bigger than it was when you tamed it. There are comparision pics on the net somewhere.

Yeah, it's so annoying to tame a new pet and have to watch it shrink down to "oh how cute" size.
Also, y'all suck at bear names.

They changed it to what I discribed, unfortunately. Your pet wont get exp on mobs grey to you even if they'd con red to your pet still. The only thing they changed was the experience scaling which was based on your level. Prior to the change, not only did you have to kill mobs that gave you exp, but the pet got reduced exp on low to you greens. At least now you can kill extremely easy mobs and the pet will get full (capped at 414 exp) experience. I've posted about the cap a few times on the bug board but haven't got a responce if it is intended or left over from the prior experience code. I leveled a rotting agramar up under the old method and it was hell. I don't think the new way is much better though.

Ah, i had misunderstood the patch notes: Hunter pets now gain experience based on the level difference between them and their target rather than the difference between the Hunters and their target. This will make it much easier to level up a low level pet. Keep in mind that the Hunter must still kill creatures from which he/she will gain experience.

I got to do my first ZG run the other day with an alliance between my guild and another smaller casual guild.
ZG was actually really fun. We downed the Bat, Snake, Spider, and Tiger bosses, and excepting the Spider, all on the very first try. Not bad considering only 4 or so people on the run had actually done ZG before. The Spider we wiped a few times on thanks to people backing up too far during the fight and aggroing a group of enemies we skipped.

re hunter pets - I've been playing with one of those new fangled undead pigs from EPL for a little while now. The little charge stun thing is nice. LittlePiggy. I do hate the way the thing looks though. I wish it looked like the pig from Blasted, those are pretty in a hog kind of way.
Still have my King Bang tiger that I levelled up with from whenever I got it, but now that I could get another with the same look, I can dump that one, just haven't yet due to.. erm, attachment (Magdalen).
I have a wolf pet too, a pretty red one, forgot where I got her. She's ok, got for the group buff thingie. Nothing special, named her after my dog (Maybellene).
No empty slots. If I want to learn something I need to abandon someone.

Ah, so my character, Itchyrash, could find a home in your Burning Region. Yay. Well, yay if I ever get around to playing that game again. After we settle from the move next week, I should have all the time in the world to do anything I like again. I'll play everwhere. Itchyrash will spread from server to server.
