So last night I picked up Space Rangers 2, a PC game that has a lot of excellent reviews.  Unfortunately, upon installing it, I found out that not only does it have Starforce protection on it, but that Starforce keeps the game from actually RUNNING on my system.

Does anyone know how I can get this thing to work?  I don't pirate software, but I can't think of any other way to get this to work other than a No-CD crack (which I can't find anyway, since apparently the European no CD crack doesn't work on the North American version..)

I think regularly applied oinment can lessen the severity of the outbreaks.

Is it on CD instead of DVD? Do you have an old CD-ROM (not CD-R or CD-RW) drive lying around? Are you unafraid of the guts of your computer? If yes to all of the above, slap the old CD-ROM drive into your box; I keep one of these in all of my machines since almost no copy-protection mechanism will object to a plain old CD-ROM from 1997.

DVD games, now they're really bitchy when it comes to copy protection, I find. Those usually require a No-CD and a really angry letter to the publisher (printed and mailed, not e-mail).

I got the herpes and ended up formatting and re-installing. You can never be too sure.

As for how to uhm, bypass it, without directly linking to a site that may not be, strictly speaking, legal in many parts of the world, you might want to try cdcopyworld or gamecopyworld  dot com...

Thanks for the help.  I've uninstalled and removed starforce, but I'm just amazed that a company would ship with that piece of crap "copy protection".

I'm amazed that forums offer SEARCH FUNCTIONS when nobody ever uses them.
