My girlfriend is always bitching about getting old, I'm loving it. Every year is better than the last.
Sure, you trade up a few things, but I see life as a tapestry. The earlier parts were filled with drugs and heavy metal and free love, the middle part is filled with wisdom and more sophisticated music and a solid mature relationship with a good friend. The later parts will be whipping kids with a cane or something.
The only tough part is working a little harder to stay in shape, but as I near forty, I still bound up stairs and climb everything in sight, I won't stop until I physically can't do things anymore, which is a looong way off, because I'm always refilling myself with energy. Not going gently and all that.
Makes me sad to see people I went to school with who act like a bunch of old-timers, who are so sedentary they can't go out and do fun things and are always bitching about getting old. I won't be bitching about being old even when I'm lying on my deathbed, I'll be quoting spongebob or something trying to cheer up the gloomy folks watching me die.
You're only as old as you feel and act, and that's the truth.

Having a family of any type is a big motivator. The key for me is to let it motivate me but not stress me out.

Other than that, getting older doesn't really bug me. Except when I see the hot little recent graduate at Starbuck's and realize I am TWICE HER AGE.
From my experience, a lot of chicks my age and younger dig geezers. Bonus if you're bald and have a mustache. Competition is rough. |

I'm looking forward to my 40th (not long now) to get cheered up again because I magically become 'distinguished.' Nope. There's always someone older and yet... cooler. I remember my old man making some comment the year he died (aged 64) how his bridge partners (late 90s) made him feel like a teenager. At 42 going on 34 I have to admit he was on to something. |
