That's just a processor though. Are there still people that pay $800 for a processor? I mean really. Jesus. My whole computer didn't cost $800 and I bought it 4 years ago. It has run everything I've put in it.

Stuff you may want Radeon 9550 Graphics Card
Reg.: $99.99
$69.99 (after rebate)
Yea if I buy a CPU for $800 I probably want a budget graphics card with that

My new rig here runs an Athlon X2 4400+. Pretty boss so far, and it was nicely priced about ~2 months ago when I bought it.

Point being it's an AM2, not s939. Like I said in my post, bleeding edge. I didn't say it was worth it. Next time I won't point out a $200-400 savings on a pc part, sheesh.

Where does it say it's a socket AM2 CPU? AM2 is 940 pins (page says 939 pin), DDR2 (page says DDR).

Part number is same as the part Trippy linked. Also, wouldn't the FX60 dual-core be the bleeding edge now?

Hah. They changed it. Yesterday when I posted that it was the AM2 FX-60, not the s939 FX-55. Bet there was a d'oh moment at the Shack HQ! Edit: Link originally taken from Anand's pad. His link is bad now, too.

Interestingly, while the article is discussing socket AM2 processors, the "prices" advert insert is for socket 939 FX-60 processors (and the Radio Shack one is a bogus link to a single core FX-55). The AM2 part is called an FX-62, or so the article says.

I had bought the FX-55 from Newegg back in Feb of this year, and got a free ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboard. Right now they have some specials with the motherboard for ram, dvd recorders, and power supply. The FX-55 is going for $640 right now (as it was $811 when I bought it with the free motherboard) and you get a free T-shirt yah!

It may be smart to wait for Conroe to come out. There's some rabble-rousing about the early benchmarks, but there appears to be a big technological jump coming from Intel in July. And, it won't cost 800-$1000
