http://www.apple.com/macbook/macbook.html

For all you Mac fanatics out there.

$1099 gets you:

13.3-inch widescreen display
1280 x 800 resolution
1.83GHz Intel Core Duo
512MB memory (2x256MB SODIMMs)
60GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive2
Combo drive (DVD-ROM, CD-RW)

Graphics is Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, though -- not a very gamer-friendly chip.

I might get one of these (the $1300 one), but I'm really looking forward to their new desktops (if/when).

Heh, Apple is charging a $150 premium to get the black case. Apparently black plastic is in short supply, or something.

Yes, I do work for Apple and no, I'm not the mole.

Well the new MacBook has only been out for two days but the complaints are already rolling in including complaints about the whining and "mooing" (problems shared with the MacBook Pro), the reflection prone glossy screen, and most seriously reports of crashing from overheating (MB Pro are prone to heating up to uncomfortable levels as well though those just got a stealth firmware upgrade to run the fan more).

I like that the case is more rugged than a thin skin of aluminum and that its slightly smaller, but the graphics processor is a bit Sad Mac. I'd like to replace my TiBook at some point, but I'd like a small notebook that runs OS X, and ideally a mainstream graphics processor. Looks like its going to be a 15" dentmaster unless there's some notebook yet to come.

I have had mine for about a week now.

The Apple Store I bought it from had a black unit for demonstrations, I am not really in to the whole matte black thing so I bought a plain white.

It does get rather warm, hotter than the iBook G4 it replaces that is for sure.  I am now using a hardcover book to keep this *book off of my lap (suggest using Coupland's new book JPod as its fluff-and-filler to content ratio is the highest I have ever come across in a hardcover).

No freezes or glitches as of yet.  First thing I did was install WindowsXP, and then the forced Visio/Project/WorldOfWarcraft trifecta.  Yet again, all run without a hitch.  Nice to only have to lug one laptop around as opposed to my old system of one laptop for *work* (cough) and one for everything else.

As for the complaints, I am sure they have nothing to do with http://isnoop.net/blog/2006/05/20/macsaber-turn-your-mac-into-a-jedi-weapon induced battles.

This is why we can't allow people to have nice things.

Ok, macsaber is kinda cool. I like announcing my presence in a room by unsheathing my 'lightsaber', and then having the 'saber off' sound when I leave. I think my coworkers might be plotting my imminent demise.

To give the hard drive a chance to park its heads before it hits the ground.

So that when the laptop is RMA'd, the manufacturer can deny free replacement or repairs on the grounds that the user has been recorded as having abused it. That, and the NSA requested that Apple collects the data for them.

That's very cool.  When I smack my computer it just stares at me.  Well, you know that... you're the one who gets to fix it when I smack it too hard.  (aren't you relieved we never had children?) It would be even cooler if it said "ouch!" everytime you smacked it!

As some of you know, I have a PC at home and I work on macs. My boss recently got the 17inch MacBook Pro, and had me do all the usual software install stuff. Let me give you guys some quick advice DO NOT INSTALL PHOTOSHOP IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE THE SECURITY UPDATE!
I did this with out knowing, and the machine locked, and refused to boot. I had to boot in safemode, and remove Adobe VersionCue. Then boot up again from the install disk, repair the harddrive, reboot normally, resinastall photoshop with out versioncue, then reboot again from the install disk, repair the harddrive again, then start up the computer normally. Huge pain in the ass.
