I did beta test The Realm, even before they had monsters or anything.  It was good fun!  I love that game.

So... are we going to get in on this guild thingy Cal is promoting?  Will enough people join Bat Country to make it worthwhile for them?  I modified my beta application and we have WAY more than enough people on f13 to make a significant guild.  Will the lurkers come out of the woodwolrk?

Here is the thingy they send to people who sign up and put their guild info in:

Quote
Thank you for being a part of The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™ community! This summer is going to be a very busy one for LOTRO, so we'd like to take a moment to share some of the things that we are working on with you.

If you are part of a guild in another MMOG don’t forget to get other members of your online gaming guild to register – if someone in your guild gets into the Beta, it automatically increases your chance of getting in. The top 10 largest guilds will automatically receive up to 100 Beta invites and the remaining top 90 will get up to 20 invites! So even if your guild isn’t very large, it still benefits you and your guildmates to all sign up. The best way to encourage guildmates to sign up is to post the LOTRO Beta URL (http://lotro.turbine.com/betasignup) on your guild forum or email it to your guildmates directly.

We'd also like to mention that we've published a new What is LOTRO? feature on our website. We've combed over all of our previous interviews, articles, and dev diaries to compile a definitive summary of what LOTRO is all about. If you're new to the community, you'll most likely find this information very useful.

Development on the game is proceeding rapidly. Beta invites won't be far behind!

Thanks again for being a part of the community, and we hope to see you in Middle-earth sometime soon!

Sincerely,
The LOTRO Community Team

I encourage you to fill out yet another tedious beta sign up so we can all test a game together again... even though we'll never last more than a couple of months after it launches.

If we buy it at all.

Which I doubt.

We're so fucking lame.

Didnt everyone already put f13 as the guild name already in their apps? i thought we agreed to do that, at least i think we did.  I don't really remember what i put down.  Your avatar once again confuses and scares me.

The second paragraph of my email went like this:

Quote
We noticed in your Beta application that you are part of a large guild. Don't forget to get other members of your online gaming guild to register. If someone in your guild gets into the Beta Program, it automatically increases your chance of getting in! The top 10 largest guilds will automatically receive up to 100 Beta invites and the remaining top 90 will get up to 20 invites. The best way to encourage guildmates to sign up is to post the LOTRO Beta URL (http://lotro.turbine.com/betasignup) on your guild forum or email it to your guildmates directly.

The rest were the same. It's probably because I said that f13.net was FUCKING HUGE.

Got the same message.  Dunno what to say I'm already signed up as an "f13.net" member.  We covered all these bases didn't we?

I'm just reminding you.  Don't complain.  I was reminded to remind because I got an email.  I thought maybe it would drive the lurkers out from the shadowy corners.

Great, yet again they screw over the small guilds. LOTR devs another bunch of large raid fanbois like the WoW devs?

http://blogs.parc.com/playon/archives/2005/07/guild_size.html

Just ignore inconvenient facts like that average guild size being 14.5.

If...."The largest observed guild had 257 members. The lower quartile is 2. The upper quartile is 16. The 90th percentile was 35. The 95th percentile was 54. The 99th percentile was 110."

Would you rather have the few guilds over 100 or the thousands of smaller guilds?

I put F13, SINCE THAT IS THE NAME OF OUR EVE GUILD. If everyone gets in with F13.net and I get screwed, I shall be very cross. And probably say things about Cal's dubious lineage  evil

I put F13, SINCE THAT IS THE NAME OF OUR EVE GUILD.

It's a corporation.  Space and pirates, not forests and elves.

I am waffling.  If there is going to be a large turnout, I might as well throw my hat in.

Fair point. I feel slightly nauseous having referred to it as a guild now!  :-D

Would you rather have the few guilds over 100 or the thousands of smaller guilds?

Let me see, you're essentially asking the following:

"Would somebody who has to do community relations for a living want to deal with a hundred points of contact for 10,000 testers, or 10,000 individuals, all clamouring for attention?"

There's no need to answer, is there?

I've been resisting but have you fools seriously forgotten how terrible this game is going to be?

Eh, I saw it at E3. Looked funner than DDO.

I said funner. Heh.

Edit: And btw, I'm pretty sure f13.net, f13, and Bat Country will all work. I'm confident Turbine is smart enough to put 1 and 1 and 1 together and come up with 4.

Oh and, for the guild section of the signup process, if you all want to enter "f13.net" as the guild name that's perfectly fine. Just make sure you all enter it exactly the same.

Reminds me of when some random recruiter shitcock showed up in the F13 channel and said "Hail!"  Naturally, my instinctual response was "Sup, thou?"

Beta test an MMORPG from the makers of AC2 and DDO, based on a licence that has a snowball's chance in hell of working as an MMORPG?

Staying as far away as humanly possible, I'd say.

You might be right, Moneky-Lurker (boo!), but I  HAVE  TO SEE !  I can't help it... whether it's a wonderful MMO or a train wreck, I'm too curious not to find out for myself.  Le sigh.  Curiosity is my curse.  (along with impulse buying, staring at my neighbours, smoking pot, poking my husband in the middle of the night to see if he's really asleep, not minding the gap, and some other stuff that you probably don't want to know)
