From E3insider.com:

Very Cool, but what's CGI and what's realtime?

It all looks realtime.

Yeah, it looks real time but machinima.

There are four levels of screens:

CGI
Machinima
Highly contrived screenshots.
Real screenshots.

Looks like 2 to me.

These kinds of screens are boring. No UI, no action being shown. What is it, a game where you talk to acne-scarred aliens? From these pictures it looks like the next Wing Commander.

I'm not trying to bag on. Everyone is guilty of releasing meaningless screenshots.

What's with teh hate? Game sounds great, looks great. I'll be optimistic about anything Bioware makes, especially before it's a shipped product.

And...Jade Empire was Xbox-only with no word of a pc port until just now.

The difference is that I'll have to buy a 360 expressly to play Mass Effect. I had an Xbox before KotOR and Jade Empire.

Let me see if I can clear it up. Hopefully I won't be saying more than I should.

The pictures are all screencaps from a video presentation.

The video consists of in-engine footage. Some of that footage is of realtime gameplay, and some of in-engine "designer" cutscenes (as opposed to prerendered "animator" cutscenes). All of the footage was acquired from the behind-closed-doors demo they're doing.

The UI isn't there because it was "turned off" for the purpose of making the video.

Shot one (burning vehicle) is what you'd see running around. Shots two and four (close ups on aliens) are what you'd see when in conversation with an NPC. If it looks cinematic, that's the effect they were going for. Nothing's final at this stage, of course.

I don't know why they didn't include a shot of the combat, they just didn't. There's some in the demo, and it's shown in the video.

Don't ask me more questions, because I probably can't answer. Sorry. ^_^

Nothing in this post represents the views of my current or previous employers.

Those pictures are nice.  They also beg for captions.  Somebody wake up WUA.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.
