If you've been looking for another reason to launch Steam since Half-Life 2 was released, this is probably it. While it MIGHT turn out to be total crap, I'm fairly sure Valve wouldn't let that happen. Preloading started a while ago, so it's not too late to download it before the Tuesday rush.

Got it preloaded. I'm hoping it doesn't feel like a glorified HL2 mod.

Played a couple hours of it. Not bad! Character models are very good, Environments are solid and for the most part don't feel like a glorified HL2 mod. The weapons feel very distinct from HL2's, and I swear the AI is much better than HL2's. Enemies still pile out of doorways and take the same paths when following their buddies (meaning baiting them out to get you is very effective), but they use cover and are generally much more accurate than the nearly blind Combine from HL2. This of course is because early on most grunts take 2-3 shots from your pistol max before going down (note: Your pistol fires much more slowly than HL2's) and a single headshot. Here's some screens, complete with boobies (The SiN guys take a chapter from Team Ninja in pointless jiggling).

LOL. If you like that kind of stuff, check out the DOAX2 trailer.
Fabricated or whoever else has it running, can you play it without having Steam running?

No, you can't. What the hell is everyone's problem with Steam?

Steam was written by Hitler. Also, Valve is run by robots.

No, you can't. What the hell is everyone's problem with Steam? Are you sure you really want to know?

No, you can't. What the hell is everyone's problem with Steam? Are you sure you really want to know? I'd like to. I haven't had problems with it since the awful beta, and its digital distribution method is about the least offensive I've seen since you can actually back your games up to a physical medium. Also, just beat SiN. Very good, but pretty short just as they said it would be. 4-5 hours tops for your average FPS player. I bet it could be speedran in about an hour.

What I like about steam is I can erase my HD. Redownload steam and have access to my library again.
I wish itunes was that good.

iTunes truly is the worst of both worlds. Encrypted files AND no way to redownload them. I introduced my little brother to the magic of Steam a little while ago - he has an old copy of Half-Life that I gave him many years ago, but can't play on his new computer because the CD is messed up or something. "Do you still have the CD key?" I ask him. He fetches it for me. I install Steam on his computer, hit the "register something I already own" button, punch in the CD key, and presto, a brand spanking new fully patched install of Half-Life 1 starts downloading. He now feels that Steam is pretty much the coolest thing ever.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Steam tanked for me.

2/10 WOULD NOT INGEST

I had SiN downloaded and decrypted thirty minutes after release, but so far have been unable to play it. Now Killjoy is visiting me for the weekend, plus it's Mother's Day which might as well be called Yegolev Fucks Up Day, so I guess I'll have to make do with real titties instead of animated ones for a while. At least it was only $18.

Why am I homeless? Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question. They called it The Prayer, its answer was law Mommy come back 'cause the water's all gone

What's the cost on SiN? Price vs 4-5 hours of content?

Since you can't preorder now, it's $19.95 or something.

I moved about a month after buying HL2, and I got a new computer right after the move. I some how misplaced my HL2 disks during the move, but thanks to Steam it just let me download the entire game. Also, I dont need to use CD (dvds) to play any more. The my only significant experiance with Steam, so file me under "thinks its good". Oh yeah, thinks Ill buy SiN.
