A n00bler question occurred to me last night while UWoF was failing to kill me (Marilea) at their gate gank--I've never returned fire when in range of sentry guns; will defending yourself provoke a response from them?

Nope, you can defend yourself. And you can initiate combat with pirates (lower than -5 security rating).

As a matter of fact I swallowed one of these about two hours ago and the explanation is that it is, in fact, my hand.

Yeah sentry guns look the other way if there's an official wardec.
My question is, if they had a gate gank how is it they failed to kill you?

I'm not in the f13 corp, so I'm not wardec'd. They couldn't bubble; just 4 of them trying to scramble/shoot me as I crawled 15k to the gate. I didn't have to sit there and take it, but they were doing so poorly, I thought, "WTF...let's see what happens."
They're not very good pirates, are they?
Damn, now I wish I'd shot back. Those guns tore them up pretty good as it was.

How is it that you were able to get to the gate then. I know you're in a Raven, but still....
Ravens are slow as it is, and 15km can be a long way when you're moving at 50m/s...

If you return fire, the gate will prevent you from jumping through it for up to a minute. Keep that in mind before you take a few parting shots.

Ah, good to know about the jump delay, that would have made it tricky. I'll remember to warp in-system if that happens. How is it that you were able to get to the gate then. I know you're in a Raven, but still....

Well, for one thing, not *one* of them thought to web me :P Although they didn't have enough scramblers to prevent jumping, so I could have warped in-system anyway. Although, I fly low-sec in generic tank mode--all resists tweaked up, including a good damage control. Maybe they just figured it would be easier and didn't stop to think. I predict they'll lose your war...again :) |
