the Confederate flag underneath the stone in my class ring

WWW
on: April 27, 2006, 05:53:15 PM

I began writing for f13.net over two years ago, and I've had a helluva time writing here. I've appreciated all the great comments and arguments and discussions and exchanges and insults that have surrounded my writing. I've appreciated the support you've all given me.

But times change. The last few months, it's become clear to me that if I ever want to make my way as a professional writer, I have to do it my way. In that spirit, I've decided to open up my own game site, a place from which I can promote myself, my fictional writing, my movies, my politics and anything else I want to write about, without having to worry about what anyone else thinks. I hope that those who wish to continue reading my brand of craziness will seek it out.

And so I present...

/drumroll

Game Angst.com

I hope to update the site with stories at least 2-3 times a week, depending on what I'm thinking about or playing. It won't just be games, though that is certainly going to be a heavy focus. There'll also be movies and TV and books and comics and politics. I've been able to bang out a fair bit, and hope to be adding some of my older articles to the archive as I go along. Of particular interest is my "Mature MMOG" series that I started writing years ago. I hope to take a retrospective look back at those articles to see if I still feel the ideas therein are worthwhile.

I'll still read here, post here, and be the same pain in the ass I always am. I just won't do it as a staff writer.

Thanks for the memories. Now let's make some more.

Good luck, man. I'll be sure to check it out from to time to time. Even if I don't like games as much these days, you're always a good read.

The title of this thread is a bit dramatic though, don't you think?  wink For a second there, I thought you were leaving completely.

You mean I get to read a new Haemish article 2 or 3 times a week instead of once a month?  Sounds good to me, even if it does mean I have to add yet another damn site to my bookmarks.  Good luck!   Thumbs up!

I'm not sure, but I think I just made the very first non-Haemish post on his forums.   :-D

It's so WEIRD to look at Haemish's posts, and see a Blue name, instead of an Orange name.

I will be giving up my position here as well. Samwise will be taking over the backend as soon as I can get together with him and show him all the bells and whistles. I, unfortunately, do not have time like I used to and need to focus on real life a lot more. It's been fun.

Now that Haemish is dead (or whatever) let's tell stories about him.

EDIT:  Shockeye is apparently also dead.  Someone is stalking F13.  The heavy hitters have finally struck, and their blows are telling.

Thats what I call a grief link. Now I know why I never read that soap opera thread. From being a mortal enemy to "Brokeback forum" in ten pages. You sure he won?

Good luck with that site Haemish, as long as you are no stranger here.

I wish game sites would just stay away from politics. There are countless political sites that do them far better, and if you're trying to promote your work why throw in things that will piss off half the audience?

Shhh.  This time it's different.  Haemish doesn't have a friend who owns a Chic-Fil-A and needs a manager.  (Or I assume such.)

Tho I wonder how that's going for Arc these days.  He's been on X-fire a hell of a lot lately. He even beat me as 'biggest catass' in my network the last few weeks.

Edit:  Oh right, good luck H.  Just take the advice of the last few guys and leave the politics out of it.  Too many people these days are willing to throw out the baby with the bathwater just because you espoused a 'wrong' opinion on something.

Meh, if I haven't pissed off most of the people who read my work at least once in the last 4 years, I'd be surprised.

As for why politics, I've been reading more on the history of the 20th century lately, and politics has been more on my mind than before. I wanted to write about politics in addition to the other stuff and that's not what f13 is about. With my own site, I can talk about whatever I want.

Plus, with my own short movies (The Stalin Monologues) on there, political talk isn't much of a stretch. Maybe I can even get people to discuss politics without the word cockmonkey coming into it. Probably not, though, since I'm as guilty of that as the next guy.
