I suppose this could go in MMOs just as well:

'Tringo' jumps from 'Second Life' birthplace to Game Boy Advance

Basically, it is a game that got built and distributed in Second Life, which has been sold by the player who created it to a distributor for the GameBoy Advance.  It is a cross between Bingo and Tetris.  More than that I know not, although it does strike me as an interesting reflection of Second Life's IP policies.  Also of note for those 'how do I get a game built?' threads.

I have to say that of all the MMOGs out there, this one gets press like none other (save perhaps the behemoth WoW, but it gets press for sheer subscribers and I think minor cultural impact - "OMGZ! A real life billionaire plays WoW? Whoda thunk it!"). Second Life has made news for many different reasons in the past and this is just another on its long list. As a matter of fact, if any MMOG is going to bridge the gap between real and virtual worlds, this is going to be the one to pave the way for it to be done. Nice find, Evang.

Poptart plays Second Life and absolutely loves it. The amount of shit you can do in this thing is staggering. I've seen people selling dangly parts for avatars, broadcasting music videos on the side of their house, running radio stations from inside the game, etc.

It's not my cuppa, but it's really interesting.

It gets full press because it should.

Trust me on this.  Second Life will be to the future of online life projection (virtual reality and the holodeck) as the personal computer itself was to personal actualization.  The internet gets the credit for personal actualization but it's the advent of personal computing with government vision (yes exactly, THANK YOU AL GORE) that made the difference.

It's primitive right now and capitalistically craven.  And it's the wave the nihilisitic future.

Really really, and twice on Sunday.

I'd also note that this game is both similar and different from EQ's infamous Medtris.  Similar in having Tetris-like elements in an MMO mini-game, but profoundly different in that, while Medtris was an immersion-breaking patch on a game design hole, this is in fact very much the point of SL: player-created activities nurtured in the SL environment expanding beyond it.  Context really does make a difference.
