The GF members here already know it, but since I saw a thread about skill planning some time ago and that the current public planner is a piece of crap and has apparently been abandoned, I'm gonna whore this tool written by a SA/GF member:

http://evemon.evercrest.com/

Needs .NET 2.0. Send isk to Six Anari (the coder of the app) for supporting this project.

I was uncomfortable with that, but it also has an option to do it with the saved XML file that you can get from "My Character" on the official site.

Not that I've been able to connect to the official site more than 1 css-less time today.  Four hours of downtime on the website...

It's open source. You can check if it calls home or not, or compile it yourself if you don't trust the binaries.

Strange, I was happily browsing the forums all day.

Cheers for the heads-up: I bounced through a proxy at our apps hosting site in the US and it worked a treat.  Clearly our company network (or an upstream router) is the problem.

Fair point about checking out the source code, but that's not open to most people I suppose, and technically even I would be cautious: it's harder to obfuscate .Net code (managed code, at any rate) than old-school C++ (via memory sharing techniques, memory indirection, overloading and pointers to pointers in the main) but a good malware writer could still give himself a day or so's headstart.

if you're really paranoid (i.e. me) just change your password to a dictionary word use it to login, save your character data in xml and then switch your password back or to a new one even...

Although I'm getting more suspicious...

ctfmon.exe is running in the background even though I haven't started the skill planner...
not looking good.

I haven't had any problems with the old char manager, supported or unsupported but I'll check this one out later.  Evercrest, huh.. Drystart is in Goonfleet?

What / where is the old character manager? I just need something really simple and lightweight that I could use while I am at work. So, extra points if it looks kinda spreadsheet-y and I can pass it off as real work.

I have no idea who Drystart is, but this person goes as biznatchio on SA.

Checking his Paypal donation info, it apparently is Drystart.

Drystart (Or was it Drysart.. I forget.)  was one of the first EQ cartoonists.  His work was called, "Evercrest" and created the "Abashi the Sock Puppet" joke.  He also gave Woody from GU comics his first hosting area.

Coincidently an Evercrest comic about some spat Lum had with some other web ranter at the time (about the Japanese cosplayer) was what caused me to first track-down Lum's site and start lurking.  Thus, everyone can blame Drysart for me being around.

Drysart is synonymous with red name and/or moderator in my head for some reason.. I suspect maybe it has something to do with the LTM forum days, but those days are too cloudy for me to recall

Edit: Necropost, becuase I'm now using the program too.
