I ended up with the Dr. Vahz mission last night (I am lvl 18 Energy/Energy blaster). I soloed through the entire mission and finally encountered the good doctor. I soon discovered that there is no way in HELL I am ever going to beat him solo- he cons purple to me, and the 2 times I tried to kill him I dumped all my powers on and and barely made a scratch in his health bar.

Anyone have a character around 18 that can give me a hand tonight? I figure it will probably take 3 of us (I have a buddy who is 16, but can heal and blind, so he will probably be of some help). Any strategic thoughts from those of you who have whacked this bastard?

All of the arch-villains are like that; they'll be at your level but still be purple to you.  I took him down with a group of 4 (or was it 5?) and we still had a somewhat tough fight.  I'd recommend a full group if you don't want to take chances, but a small group is also doable (but tense).

I'll (Burning Cold) try to be on tonight and give you a hand. I beat the Doc with the help of Leaddore (18 fire/fire blaster). Our basic strategy was Leaddore charboiled him while I let the Doc beat the crap out of me. I would take about 4 of his big hits (106 damage each) plus a bunch of the little hits and then make a strategic withdrawl (i.e. run like a scared girl). Leaddore would float out of reach and blast away. Once I ran, he would switch to Fly and follow. We had to retreat and return about 8 times before we finally killed the bastard. He regens like crazy so it takes a while to kill him if you retreat a lot.

I think energy blasters are better single target attackers than fire blasters so you should do OK if you get decent enough tanker to go with you.

Be glad to assist with The Nanites (lvl 20 Scrapper) or Conjecture (lvl 17 Controller).    (Given Dr. V's giant regen rate, you'd be better off with the former on your team.)

About what time do you need me online?

If I'm able to get on, I'll be glad to help with Whipcrack. I think I actually have this mission myself, and just haven't wanted (or had the chance) to get a group to go take him down. What time were you thinking of being on?

If you have any acc debuffs, like hurricane, or know anyone who does, bring them alogn and use them.  It makes the fight MUCH easier.

I will probably log on between 5:30 and 6 PDT (that is 8:30 to 9 EDT, for you on the wrong side of the country). My mission is totally clear except for the doc (I think), so we could finish him and then do Haemish's instance of it (it would be quick with a group; solo it took me about an hour).

I will give a holler in /sg when I get on tonight.

Leaddore and myself (Lanei, 18 kat/reflex scrapper) duoed the good doctor earlier in the same day that Lead helped Burning Cold.  We basically both laid the smack on him initially, and he whaled on me a few times, for 75% of my health before I backed off.  Leaddore got aggro, and the doctor spent the next 5 minutes trying ineffectually to shoot at Leaddore, who was hovering out of reach.  I rested, and then came back in for contributing DPS, but with no bursts that would turn the doc back at me.  That worked, though we were both out of end well before the fight ended.

Call me crazy, but you fight Doc Vhaz in the sewers.  When I ran into him, there was no where in the entire dungeon where you could hover "out of reach".  Hell, he could hit me from about as far away as I could snipe him with out much problem.

Where did you manage to hover that he couldnt get to you?

I'll be glad to help if I can' i usually get on arounf 10pm est.  Daydreamer/Bloodfire and I partnered up and took him down 3 times about 2 weeks back.  He was a 20 tank and me an 18 Defender.

See here for details.

EDIT: Todays patch notes said Archvillians are now more resistance to debuffs, so it might prove a little harder this time around :)

I have a level 27, err, 28 Blaster who still needs screenshots of her fighting the doc.  If you need someone to completely clean his clock, give Naihatsu a shout

Guess it depends on luck for that part, we found him in one of the big square 2 story rooms.  You get your feet a bit above his head, he shoots at you instead of swinging that bigass blade.

Ahhh, sorry, I misinterpreted what you were saying.  I thought you had somehow managed to get Completely out of his reach, not just out of mele range.

Took out the good doctor twice last night (once on my mission, once on Haemish's). My mission was a level higher, so the first time through was a bit tougher. We tried it at first with the following team-

Rascal King Lvl 18 blaster
Whipcrack Lvl 17 scrapper
Nile Princess lvl 16 controller (or defender, I can never remember)

After a TPW, we decided we needed some extra help, and enlisted Mr. Corporate (lvl 20 blaster). He made things MUCH easier, and we took down the doc with few problems (Mr. Corp got the SO drop).

We then added Burning cold (lvl 18 tanker), and blitzed through Haemish's instance of the mission in record time (I leveled during the first one, so most of the mobs were green to me by then). Luckily, I go the SO drop this time (lvl 17 recharge reduction, which I promptly double slotted on my Build Up to get some more use from it).

It was fun- thanks for the help!

The other thing is - you don't have to take out Dr. Vahz to clear that mission. I don't think it ever spawns so that you have to fight through him to accomplish the end goal of the mission. He's just OMG THERE.

Pwning him is a bonus.

The only time I met Dr. Vhaz, he was standing over the last body bag.  So, I ended up leaving and forming a party, to take him out so I could finish the mission.  It only took about 20 secs to kill him with a full group.

Same here.

WayAbvPar, fom what you said, it sounds like the mission holder is no longer the one who always gets the SO drop.  Is this true?

It was most certainly true. Way got the SO on my mission, and I forget who got it on his mission. I did get a nice DO drop during the fights AND a DO drop from my contact.

Heh, I logged in to try and help you guys, but by the time I was able to play, you had mowed through Dr. Vahz twice.

Sucks cause I never got the Dr. Vahz mission chain myself.

In fact, I'm all confused as to how I managed to not get more souveniers up to lv 22.  I have a whoppin two.

Damn, that rather sucks then.  I didnt like the idea of Vahz being farmable, but randomizing the SO drop kind of hurts for the mission holder.  It was nice when the holder was the one who got the drop.  Sort of as a reward for getting the story line.

Yeah I thought the mission holder got one for sure, and then it was random for a teammate to also have a chance at one. That does kinda suck, especially since the mission holder did all the hard work previous (especially the mission where you are diseased and your end is affected..what a PITA!).

Yeah, the disease is EVIL.  I thought it was pretty cool, what with my own litle fly swarm and stinking cloud.  Then I right clicked on the Disease icon, and noticed it is a -Max Health, - Max End, -HP Regen, -End Regen!!!!!  Talk about a serious crimp in soloing ability!

Took him down twice with a cold/cold blater (me), a fire/fire tanker, and a dark/X scrapper.

Basically I would nail him down with my cold root which has some kind of effect on his attack speed and then the tanker and scrapper went into melee while I blasted.  Always using the root whenever it cycled up.

Only once in the 2 fights did he even get a swing off.  But I would have to swallow his first ranged attack.

In both fights I burned through about 15 endurance insprirations.  Both the scrapper and tanker fed them to me when I ran out of my own.
